President Museveni's condemnation of ICC hypocritical.
Updated 8 hrs 50 mins ago
It was sad and completely uncalled for by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to hit out at the International Criminal Court during the inauguration of Kenya's fourth president Uhuru Kenyatta.
It was hypocritical for Museveni to use the occasion to criticize ICC and yet he is not only cooperating but collaborating with the same institution and America to hunt down the leader of LRA joseph Kony who is fighting his regime.
President Museveni should be the last person to criticize ICC especially because of his poor and dictorial leadership style in Uganda. It was shameful and embarrassing for Kenyans and the people of Uganda and the world at large to watch Museveni criticize an important institution that he is not only a founder member but that he is working with pretending to be fighting injustices and crimes against humanity like the case of Kony of LRA.
It is a wonder that how comes it is only African leaders especially those who have failed integrity test that are complaining about ICC. ICC as an international organization may not be perfect in its way of conducting its business but it is a very important watchdog to world leaders who have no respect to human lives and who can go to any length to retain power whether it is wiping out a whole community like is the case with most African leaders in the past and currently.
Any leader that has blood in his hands and who have been accused of letting blood of innocent people should be held responsible for his actions whether by ICC or whatever. In fact instead of the International Criminal Court (ICC) the African Union Commission should have become a strong watchdog for the African people if it were strong and independent.
President Museveni is a leader that most Ugandans would love to get rid of because of failed leadership. If it were not for fake and failed democracy in Uganda and most countries of Africa, President Museveni among other African leaders who have failed the continent should have become assets of political dustbin. Like many of his Africa comrades in Africa e.g. Rwanda, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Museveni is struggling by all means to remain life presidents of Uganda even if it means using parliament and changing the constitutions.
Leaders with questionable integrity in Africa and in the world should not be allowed to interfere with and to undermine credible institutions like ICC for the sake of advancing their own personal and selfish interest. In fact, ICC as an organization should expand its mandate to include bad governance, corruption and nepotism also as elements of crimes against humanity and therefore punishable before court of law.
European and western nations including some prominent countries in Asia and Far East Asia cannot be said to be very democratic but have succeeded in advancing economic developments in their countries for the benefit of their people by setting out agendas and strategies aimed at empowering the people and making their lives comfortable.
China even though being criticized for not practicing democracy has its own style of political leadership that has enabled to develop both politically and economically. Despite the criticism especially from the western world, China has managed to become a world power not only because of hard work but also because of strong leadership that has placed interest of its people as priority beyond personal interest of any individual leader. Through a committed leadership China has managed to put in place serious economic plans and strategies which have propelled the country to become a leading world power today.
Some African leaders have let the continent down. They are taking Africa back to the old dark days instead of moving forward. Africa is retrogressing instead of advancing surely because of bad, poor and myopic leadership.
The International Criminal Court as an international organization has good intentions and should not be condemned simply because of selfish interest by a few individuals interested in retaining and grabbing power.
It was encouraging that even though president Museveni made demeaning outburst against ICC, President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto who are indicted by ICC remained calm and maintained their promise to cooperate with ICC. President Museveni of Uganda should not only apologize to the United Nations and the International Criminal Court but also to Kenyans, Uganda's and most Africans who believe and have hopes in the international Court.
ICC on the hand should take necessary punitive measures against Museveni who has behaved contrary to the principles and ideals of the organization that he serving as a member. In fact European and other Western diplomats present at the function should have walked out of the ceremony to protest against President Museveni's remarks about ICC.
