All of them were Raila's closest confidants.In 2007 Raila galvanized all tribes against Mt Kenyan tribes,although he won the poll, things did not go well with him,he ended up being PM, a post he always dreamed of since 2002!..

Now when his former allies gang up against him,they are just giving him a taste if his own medicine!..He has made more more enemies than friends...he is poor in keeping friends..this nonsense that they are blocking Raila is outdated. Raila finished himself! treated others like garbage, then uses anti reformist tag against those who leave him....

The presidency is not a preserve of Raila Odinga....others like him,have every right to run for any elective post including the presidency.Yes he has done so much to fight for democracy and second liberation and we appreciate and respect him for that,however he should not demand the presidency as a reward of whatever he has done. Many did it, some are even unrecognized...but their sacrifices paid off,and they don't brag or demand anything in return!

Tribalism is a major disease and we thought Raila could be the solution..but the way he has run ODM and his office proves we are still very far from eradicating the vice.... its tribalism that has killed ODM. Nothing else.

If you read between the lines on what you wrote, especially the highlighted, you will undoubtedly understand why Odinga would have never cured tribalism in your lovely country. You all seem to be infected. This is a disease that needs a heavy and long dosage to bring a relief and not necessarily a cure to Kenya.

Historically, revolutionary movement leaders and the likes get rewarded in one way and one alone, an opportunity to lead their new nation. Only in Kenya this seems to be an impossible act, why is this the case? Well, the answer appears to be chiseled in those highlighted lines. Give Odinga a chance and let the country build-up from there. No one is perfect and so is Odinga, but the guy has definitely earned the this opportunity to lead your ever energetic nation.

I have to say all the debates on focusing on RAO are one-sided and there is an anti-ethnicity factor embedded in all your undertones. But that undertone is biased. We can logically look and disect this debate for once. And there is inbuilt dislike for other political players and this is not fair ( Kenya now has over 15 presidential candidates with valuable assets that should not be ignored). This aspect is like affirming there are variants of leadership pedigrees, a philosophy that seems to backtrack the real aspect and role of leadership. Personally, I have a solution for Kenyan politics. The country needs a complete overhaul and its politics. There needs to be a complete renewal of the political order.

Do not cheat yourself, No POLITICAN/whether reformist or pragmatist can end tribalism unless the politicians themselves avoid trying to advance their campaigns and presidential ambitions by operating within high political temperatures. And if there is a way to end tribalism, what are the guiding principles (could you explain) on the ground to put and end to tribalism. All these vices (incitements, hate speech, mud-slinging) are a culmination of such activities. You would suppose a huge percentage of ODM supporters come from Nyanza, a turf even the G7 and other parties has found it dreadful to enter.

There is a blind/blanket condemnation over the formation G7 and its politics. Media now is a powerful tool for character assassination and that is part of Kenyan politics. There are several people who should bare this blame. For instance the media should take responsibility and bare part of this blame. They have involved themselves to have a hand in determining the the out come of Kenyan politics. All this may look evil to you but that is just part of the bigger game plan.

what Kenyans want from the coming election,am sure tribalism is still a big issue in Kenya.
There is no political focus against Kenyan political platform rather is on the province representatives.
 
What suprises will the new Kenya katiba throw ? Will the next president of Kenya be a virtual unknown?
 
Even to Kenyans, our vibrant Politics is sometimes too convoluted to understand clearly. Yet here are Tanzanians offering their ''expert'' opinions and declaring solutions and conclusions to it! Some even enumerate the attributes or the lack of it of Kenyan Political Players basing on an understanding garnered from Kenya's polarized and captive-to-politicians Press to educate them. Eh, bana!!

I think that all Political Mobilization inevitably results in some form of balkanization the electorate - whether it is founded on Ethnic, Regional, Racial, ideology, Religion as the basic building blocks. On a greater scale, one could say that the European Union is balkanized along the various Nationalistic identities of its membership - nothing particularly wrong with that. In Kenya, Political Mobilization is still essentially founded on Ethnic building blocks, which Raila contributed to realize in ten years of a fractious political competition in Kenya. As long as the electoral results find acceptance with a majority of Kenyans and the competition is mature, non-violent, lacks negativity, I suppose it will have to do for the time.

He claims to be the most popular Presidential candidate in Kenya. However, when examined under clearly defined standards of governance, his candidature depicts a weak- personality, unable to prevail up on his MPs to obey the law, weak on foreign policy; with little understanding of the link between foreign policy and trade and quick to cover up his friends' scandals; a person who has no respect for local institutions of governance and the rule of law. Is he then fit to be President?

Prime Minister Raila Odinga has launched his official presidential campaign website setting the stage for the planned unveiling of his official campaigns expected in weeks.

The website launch is part of a cocktail of activities drawn in the PM's campaign diary that will culminate in the grand launch of his campaigns.

This Friday, the PM's campaign secretariat has organised a dinner to raise funds which will be followed by a series of campaign activities in the Rift Valley and a major rally in Nakuru on Saturday to commemorate these year's Saba Saba day.

Mr Odinga said that his campaign team will make good use of the technological development that has ushered in the new era of trending so as to reach out to Kenyans all over the world.

He said the interactive website designed by his campaign secretariat will be a forum to engage supporters from time to time and share ideas and views on the campaigns.

The public can access the website by visiting the link www.raila-odinga.com or get campaign tit beats on the presidential candidate by registering through a campaign short code 2033 at a fee.

"I shall launch my Presidential campaign officially at a later date, but in the meantime I am keen to expand the opportunity for dialogue with my fellow citizens, "the PM said.

Raila pledged a religious commitment to the constitution if elected telling off his critics who were watering down his pro reforms campaign plans.

He warned the public to be careful not to entrust the country's leadership on a caliber of politicians who cannot guarantee full implementation of Kenya's new constitution.

"The forces of status quo are telling us that what matters is that we have a new constitution, it does not matter how it came and we should trust anybody with it," said Mr Odinga.

About 20 MPs including seven cabinet ministers attended the event at the Inter Continental hotel.

The PM's chief campaign manager James Ongwae said that his team was working on an elaborate campaign plans to ensure the ODM candidate emerged victorious in the coming elections.

"By launching this website we are making a bold statement that the PM is cognizant of the technological development and giving a hint of where our campaigns are headed," Mr Ongwae said.

Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba who also spoke at the launch said that the PM's campaign would be focused on the reform agenda as his government would guarantee Kenyans an uncompromised implementation of the constitution.

"We have a gem of a candidate a distinguished warrior, a warrior of liberty, equity and justice in Raila Odinga," Namwamba said.

In attendance were cabinet ministers William ole Ntimama, James Orengo, Otieno Kajwang, Chris Obure, Amason Kingi and Fred Gumo.

ODM chairman Henry Kosgey and Prime Minister's wife Ida Odinga were also present.

Top politicians and businessmen have been invited to a Sh100,000 a plate dinner with Prime Minister Raila Odinga to raise funds for his presidential campaign.

The dinner, to be held on Friday at the Crowne Plaza in Nairobi's Upper Hill area, has been organised by the PM's presidential campaign secretariat and supporters of his State House race.

On Wednesday, the director of communications at the PM's presidential campaign secretariat Barack Muluka confirmed the Sh100,000 a plate dinner stating that they were the organisers of the event.

However, he declined to give any details about the dinner and the amount of money they were targeting.

"Yes, the secretariat has organised the event, but we can discuss the details later if Kenyans want to know more about it," he said.

The fund-raiser is reminiscent of President Kibaki's Sh1 million a plate lunch, which was organised by his campaign team in November 2007.

The lunch aimed to raise Sh100 million, but it is not clear whether the fundraiser held at the Safari Park Hotel met its target.

Mr Odinga's chief campaign manager James Ongwae sent out text messages to MPs and businessmen asking them to attend the event.

The Daily Nation established that similar fund-raisers would be held abroad from September to target diaspora donors willing to finance the PM's campaign drive.

The dinner is part of events which will culminate in the launch of Mr Odinga's presidential campaign programme, which will be rolled out in the next few weeks.

It also comes in the wake of the PM's Sunday retreat at a hotel in Kajiado, which was attended by members of his presidential campaign secretariat, two representatives from the party's MPs, and groups which are supporting his presidency.

Assistant minister Alfred Khangati confirmed that invitations had been sent out to potential donors who are expected to buy the cards at Sh100,000 each.

"I have received the card and a text message inviting me to the event, which is basically organised to help raise funds for the Raila 2012 campaign," he said.

The secretary-general of the Friends of Raila (Fora) campaign lobby group Eliud Owallo said that the event has targeted volunteers interested in the success of the PM's campaign, which is set to be launched in days.

"We will participate in the event though we are not the organisers," Mr Owallo said. But an MP, who did not want to be named, said he will skip the event because the price was too expensive for him.

"I will not be able to attend because what they are asking for is un-affordable," the MP said. Prof Larry Gumbe, a member of the PM's ODM team also confirmed the dinner.

"I cannot tell how much they are targeting because I am not part of the group. I work for the party," he said.

Mr Odinga's campaign team has switched into high gear to prepare the PM for his third stab at the presidency and are set to roll out his nationwide programme.

The plan includes establishing a focal centre from which all groups campaigning for the PM will be coordinated. Next weekend, two conventions for the party's youth and women supporters will be held in Nairobi.

"The two organs will be semi-autonomous and will work closely with the secretariat to campaign for the party," a statement from Orange House said.
