Poll: Raila, Uhuru will not win elections round one

By Felix Olick

NAIROBI, KENYA: Neither Prime Minister Raila Odinga or nor his deputy Uhuru Kenyatta would clinch presidency in the first round if elections were held today, the latest poll by Ipsos Synovate has shown.

According to the polls released on Friday, none of the two presidential candidates would garner the 50 plus one percent needed to win the presidency.

The polls indicate Raila, who is CORD presidential candidate, received an approval rate of 46 percent against Uhuru's 40 percent. Uhuru is the Jubilee alliance flag bearer.

Amani coalition presidential candidate Musalia Mudavadi had 5 percent approval rate, Peter Kenneth of Eagle alliance and Martha Karua had one percent each.

Ipsos Synovate political research analyst Tom Wolf said a re run in the presidential race is almost inevitable as the two candidates so far have below 50 percent support.

The polls further showed that Raila is popular in all provinces except Rift Valley and Central and even beats Mudavadi in Western region where Cord alliance has 46 percent popularity against Amani's 29 percent.

Raila however has lost significant support in Rift Valley that overwhelmingly voted for him in 2007 with Cord having 22 percent against Jubilee's 62 percent.

In Eastern province, Cord has 55 percent support against Jubilee's 34 percent.

Raila Odinga has a slight edge over Uhuru Kenyatta in the race for State House with just over 30 days to elections, the latest opinion poll shows.

The survey by Ipsos Synovate released Friday puts the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) presidential candidate Raila Odinga ahead with 46 per cent approval rating.

He is closely followed by the Jubilee coalition flagbearer Uhuru Kenyatta at 40pc.

Amani coalition's Musalia Mudavadi is rated at 5pc while presidential candidates Martha Karua (Narc Kenya) and Peter Kenneth (Kenya National Congress) are tied at 1pc.

Another 5pc is undecided on which presidential candidate to vote for. Coast (23pc) and Western (17pc) have the highest number of undecided voters in the presidential race, the poll shows.

The survey shows that Mr Kenyatta's support increased by 13 percentage points from 27pc to 40pc while Raila's rose by 12 percentage points from 34pc to 46pc.

The latest poll findings point to a run off between Mr Odinga and Mr Kenyatta.

Run off 'inevitable' Ipsos Synovate's political analyst Tom Wolf said the results show a run off is "inevitable".

He said the pollster was not sure if the turnout in the second round of voting would be the similar to round one.

Mr Wolf said on the basis of the findings it is impossible to call the election.

"Together with such other unknown factors as turn-out rates in various parts of the country on Election D-Day, there is no solid basis for predicting the actual outcome as of now," the pollster said.

On coalition politics, 43pc of Kenyans support Cord while Jubilee enjoys the backing of 40pc.

Amani is supported by 4pc of the voting population.

The Eagle coalition bringing together Kenneth's KNC and Raphael Tuju's Party of Action (POA) enjoys the support of 1pc of Kenyans, same as Narc-Kenya.

10 per cent of Kenyans are undecided on which alliance to support as the clock ticks to the March 4 General Election.

Of those polled, 71pc said election-related violence was unlikely to occur in their areas.

The survey was conducted between January 12-20. A total of 5,895 registered voters in 47 counties were sampled.

Yaani wanajiona wajanja yet they worship 'mijambazi like Uhuru'..

Cheki hapa mfano....:becky:

President Uhuru Kenyatta...Wanted

Vice-President William Ruto...Wanted.

'Embakasi style justice'

Senator Gideon Mbuvi Sonko....huyu nadhani mnafahamu ishu zake.

Ab-Titchaz, uzeni sera zenu kwenye CORD, au hamna sera maana you have been there in government and done that? wakati huu hata lugari MP anakuwa mwenye nidhamu na muadilifu kwa kutumia ICC kama kinga.

Hapo mkuu Kabaridi ndio huwa unaniacha HOI!

Ticha vipi unadhani Sonko atambwaga Wanjiru?

Binafsi I'm rooting for him but don't ask me why :becky:
Nyani Ngabu,

Hii kitu will go down to the wire depending on how people vote. Wanjiru is basing her hope to
win on the fact that yeye ni mkikuyu na pia mchungaji (whatever!..😱hwell🙂. Kura ya wakikuyu katika
jiji la Nairobi ni kubwa and if she is bale to bag that and then the Luos and Luhyas to vote
for her, then she is sailing home free!

Sonko on the other hand ni mkamba and he banks on that too. Hata hivyo his ace ni kwamba ni
'chali ya mtaa' and the majority unemployed youth will go for him man to man. I see you are
rooting for him bro and I wish him well japo his shenanigans ni too much. If the Bishop had not
entered into this foray, angechukua hii kitu kiualini sana lakini now we have a bruising battle in
the making.

Thats my take.

Mkuu Bukyanagandi,

Huyu mtu anakurupuka na statement zisoeleweka infact its utter lies and spin. Sasa hebu jiulize kama CORD ilikuwepo
in 2008/2009?...Thats how facts get lost in these discussions. Jamaa anataka kutilia shinikizo hoja tasa bila hata kujiuliza

Nimetazama vimbwanga vyake nikajikuta nampenda bureeeeee ha ha ha ha.

My bro fatal misconception!:doh: Siasa za kenya zimekuwa kukuru kakara.

Ukabila Kenya hautokoma Kabaridi, and u know it.

Unaposema Sonko anatosha usenator unamaanisha nini maana sikuelewi?

By the way hizo siasa za Nairobi mimi ni by-stander na simo kabisa. Kwangu mimi ni
Mombasa na nitakuja na nyuzi kali kuhusu hio sehemu hivi karibuni.

Jiji mnalo nyie.
