I don't know. May be you're right, but remember, what Pepe and Ramos provide, Varane lacks, and vice versa. Pepe and Ramos have that leadership, great positioning and a knack for interceptions. Varane has a level head, incredible pace and clinical tackles. The classico showed why this is true. I think if you have Varane with his pace and his clinical tackling, there's no way that Suarez get number two.
Somehow, I agree with you, as we saw earlier this year when Varane and Nacho had to deputize the back line that Varane does not have the leadership and awareness to be able to keep the back line together. We need the combination of experience that Pepe/Ramos provides and youthful speed and energy that Varane provides to have a truly complete CB.
