Men of the Match:
Karim Benzema
He did not score, but he had a decisive role. The spectacular move that he invented leading to Cristiano Ronaldo opening the scoring, deserves a special mention.

C. Ronaldo
He scored another brace and now has 28 goals in La Liga. He has never scored so many goals at this point in a league campaign.

Carlo Ancelotti:

"It was a very good match overall. We lacked a bit of intensity at the beginning because we played on Thursday night, but we improved in the second half. It was an intelligent performance from us, without any risks being taken at the back".

"That bit of play from Benzema was spectacular, I don't know what else to say. They whole team played well. His bit of play was the key to winning the game, what he did was extraordinary. Everyone is delighted. The goals came through team moves and that is fantastic. Cristiano and Bale finished their chances well. Gareth is fine, he only got a knock and is fully fit".

CR7 equals Messi's record at midway point in the season

28 GOALS WITH A GAME TO SPARE

The Portuguese's brace against Getafe took his goal tally for the season to 28 goals, the same number as Leo Messi scored during the first half of the 2012/13 season, before ending the campaign on 50.
Cristiano has notched up his 28 goals in 17 games. He missed Los Blancos' 4-2 away defeat against Real Sociedad. The Portuguese still has one more match to play before actually reaching the midpoint in the season. That is the game against Sevilla, which was postponed due to Los Blancos' participation in the Club World Cup, now scheduled to be played on 4th February at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Cristiano's goalscoring average currently stands at 1.64 goals per league game. If he maintains that average until the end of the season, he will end the campaign on 60 or 61 goals.

Javier 'Chicharito' Hernández, the invisible man at Real Madrid

The Madrid derby appeared to signal a low point for Chicharito, whose situation at Real Madrid has become rather complicated. The Mexican could never have expected his adventure at the Bernabéu to turn out to be so negative.

Chicharito's situation has become uncomfortable for all parties:

for the manager – who has an out-of-favour player in his squad-,
for the player – who finds himself out of the reckoning -,
and for the club – who is generously paying for an unwanted resource.
