Causes of mass failure in secondary schoolnational examination
In the recent years our country isexperiencing mass failure in secondary schools. Scholars, education stakeholders and community at large blamed the incidence. In every angle of ourcountry different reasons were given as why students are failing in theirnational examinations. Most of the reasons given were directed to thegovernment. Examples of the reasonsgiven include failure of the government to equip school with enough teachers, teaching and learning materials,teachers development in relation ofcurriculum change and other which the government was suppose to do to varnishthe school well being.
The blames given might be true in one wayor another. However they might be attributed with students' behaviour. Theother time i heard people say discipline are directly proportional toeducation. Discipline is to obey all order and regulations given in a certainsetting. The setting of this discussion is school management.
There is immense discipline erosion in ourschools. The wearing off of the discipline of our children started when corporalpunishment and other critical punishment (up root the stump) were eradicated inall school levels. Before this time students' were respecting and follow whatto be insisted on by their teachers. By then students were afraid of beingpunished in either punishment at school and hence they were active and followall orders in schools. For example i remember the time we were schooling,punctuality among students was very high the time for preparation, watering thegarden, game and sports, dining time and other routine as scheduled in theschool time table were observed in time without obligation. I don't think ifthese are happening now days in our schools.
Students' disregard teachers' orders whichi think is happening now days in our schools leads students not to consider andacknowledge what to be told. Most of the students are blind of school issueshence they might not know the right route for academic success in school but bybeing told by their teacher. Becausethey disobey teachers at school they never grasp teacher's guide like teachingin the class room. For example students might not attend their assignment andhome effectively; they dodge classes and or do undesirable issues at schools ifthey know no punishment.
What i see schools management system ofthose days should be returned back. For instance corporal punishment, morningphysical exercises (mchaka mchaka), having big garden at school, ...............WELCOME FOR COMMENT
