Okay forgetting the obvious bias by our neighbours to the south here are some facts
1) Kenya is one of the largest producers of avocado in africa about 40,000 tonnes go to waste so this is a good deal to cut the losses to farmers.
2) Kenya had banned fish from china from coming into our market, we had also restricted chinese participation in the medium business segment of our economy. This is a way for the chinese to thaw that trade dispute because kenya is extremely important in Africa. All chinese giants have their africa HQ in Nairobi eg. starTimes, xinhua news network(The largest studio outside of china), Huawei etc. And the chinese also know that the west does not like their inroads in kenya, so unlike how they will force other countries to do their bidding they have to be more diplomatic with Kenya, because we have options.
3) Kenya already has the highest standard of horticulture products apart from south africa, that is why our main competitor in horticulture is south africa. Go to europe or the usa, if you buy flowers, mangoes, french beans, peas etc there is a 40% chance it was grown in kenya. so why should they skip Kenya, a workforce with a proven european standard health quality products?
4) The kenya legal system has become among the most free after south africa, this gives confidence to investors and importers of kenyan products that they can have redress any time their rights are infringed upon.
5) Kenya offers the most easy route for the chinese to build influence in africa, due to kenya's strategic position as a centre of excellence in diplomacy, business(The undisputed king in east africa) and they will have access to the third largest port in Africa.
