Kama tunakubali basi tuelewe ya kuwa faida hata ya asilimia 3000% ni sawa if that is what the market allows! But I live and do business in Tanzania believe me, legal businesses don't make a killing kama unavyofikiri. This is just a myth and here's my argument:
Let's take the example of A to Z factory:
Wamesema wana wafanyakazi 3,200. Wamepunguza 135. Hawa walikuwa wanalipwa 48,000 TZS. Let us assume expense ya hawa 135 ilikuwa ni kwa mwezi 6,480,000 TZS ya mishahara (tusahau kodi na madudu mengine)
Sasa hawa 135 wanatakiwa kulipwa 150,000, the same expense imeongezeka mpaka 20, 250,000 TZS!
Summary from 6,480,000 to 20,250,000! the difference is 13,770,000 TZS!
Na kumbuka this is a constant expense because it's salary. So let's make it annual now, we are talking of an increase of
13,770,000 X 12 = 165,240,000 TZS
And this is just salaries, bado umeme, rent, water, security etc which by the way we are told is provided by the governemnet from our taxes but we have to buy. (Electricity - buy your own generator and fuel because SORRY Tanesco is rationing, Water - sorry Dawasco not able to guarantee constant supply, buy from private water supply companies, Security - no police patrol or emergency services - pay for private security firms and the list goes on). Oh! and by the way there is the issue of health care, maana if you want your workers to attend properly work you have to ensure that they get proper health care and forget local dispensary! Yaani hata basic services hamna let me not get started on infrastructure. Did you know for example that Rwanda is one of the best connected countries with quality infrastructure and in 5 years the country will be entirely wireless? Now that is mazingira mazuri siyo Bongo!
Sasa mazingira ya kufanya biashara ni tayari magumu, the profit one makes is not that SUPER as you frivolously write, alafu bado unaambiwa uingie absurd expenses for a workforce that is unskilled! Other countries like Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda invest in education! So you have a skilled workforce. We hushangai kusikia kwamba hata waalimu wa private schools kama St Mary's ni wakenya. Na mwambie mzazi kwamba you are proud that your teachers are all Tanzanians alafu uone kama utapata wananfunzi! EDUCATION is key!
Come on!
Let us take a more serious look at this issue na tuache ushabiki.
I agree that there has to be an increase of salary and any decent employer does so annually (review salary), those who are not decent (they do exist) should be given a minimum wage to abide to but it should be a reasonable increase! 10% even 20 or 30% but not 300%. Also governement should use properly our taxes na misaada kujenga miundombinu na kuwasomesha watoto na wananchi wake ili ijenge mazingira mazuri kwa ajili ya uwekezaji! Until local industries na businesses hazitasaidiwa, some will opt kuwa shady and others will deal in petty trade and import export instead of providing REAL jobs.
PEACE!
