With my esteem pleasure n reserved demeanor since many Kenyans have turned to be "doubting Thomases" on Tanzania's capability to undertake the project especially on whether phase I n II of 5 phases are currently U/C, i have chosen to open up this thread to just give you people an insight of what is happening on day and night to make sure the line gets to Mwanza and of course to Isaka, Bujumbura n Kampala.

MY TAKE:
Sharing is caring...

Tanzanians and efficiency is like Oil and Water... why the whole world refers to you and as the Slow Tanzanians the Sleeping Tanzanians... ati more efficient than Germany and Japan...

Acha ujinga huo, it happens everywhere even KQ is worse. I am a frequent flier of KQ. I have extremely bad experience with your air line. Last week nilisafiri na KQ351 Juba-Nairobi. Toilet zilikuwa zimefungwa kwakuwa ni mbovu, can you imagine the toilets are not functioning for a flight of 1:30 hrs? On 02nd Feb while I arrived in Nairobi, I found out that there was no water in the toilets for the entire airport, this is a joke, people were complaining everywhere. Mke wangu alisafari with KQ from Entebbe to Dar in January this year, aliibiwa perfumes zote na vitu vingine baada ya kufka Dar. So don't get surprised with the inefficiency of a small airline like Precision but get surprised with KQ so called the pride of Africa.

You just hit him with a six-inch-nail, I don't think he's gonna come back for another argument. The thing is, most Kenyans think they live in first world country. Wanasahau kuwa tofauti ya nchi za kiafrika ni negligible.

Tanzania-Rwanda standard-gauge line to be electrified
Written by David Briginshaw

THE transport minister of Rwanda, Mr Jean de Dieu Uwihanganye and his Tanzanian counterpart, Mr Makame Mbarawa, agreed on March 9 to electrify the planned 407km standard-gauge line linking Isaka in Tanzania with the Rwandan capital Kigali.

The decision will enable the maximum speed for freight trains to be increased from 100 to 120km/h, while passenger trains will be able to operate at 160km/h instead of 120km/h.
Mbarawa announced the two governments will complete their review of the feasibility study for the new line within one month and will then launch a tender. Mbarawa says he hopes to lay the foundation stone for the $US 2.5bn new line in October.

In Tanzania, civil works are already underway on the first section of its 2190km standard-gauge network from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro and a contract for construction of the 336km section from Morogoro to Makutupora near the capital Dodoma was awarded last October. Contracts are due to be awarded soon for three further sections: Makutupora - Tabora (294km), Tabora - Isaka (133km), and Isaka - Mwanza (248km).

Rwanda and Tanzania agreed to revise the design of the Isaka-Kigali railway line. They abandoned the proposed use of diesel engines in favour of electric locomotives.

Experts say that electric trains are more efficient and environmentally friendly than diesel trains.

At the second meeting held in Kigali, the Ministers responsible for transport in both countries adopted a directive for the Rwanda Transport Development Agency (RTDA) and the Joint Technical Monitoring Committee (JTMC) to update the feasibility study for both countries, prior to the creation of a « Project Implementation Unit » (UEP).

Jean de Dieu Uwihanganye, Minister of State for Transport in Rwanda, and Makame M. Mbarawa, Minister of Public Works, Transport and Communication of Tanzania, signed another agreement for the implementation of the project.

The proposed date for the inauguration of railway works linking the Tanzanian port of Dar-es-Salaam and Kigali remains October 2018.

We need to reduce travel time and the cost of transporting people and goods between Dar es Salaam and Kigali and improve the efficiency of the railway. All this called for a review of the feasibility studies.

The distance between Dar-es-Salaam and Kigali is 1,320 km. Passengers will take about 10 hours to reach their destination.

After reviewing the feasibility study, the two governments will issue a call for tenders to contractors interested in the construction of this railway line.

The train from the port of Dar es Salaam to Kigali is expected to cost nearly $2.5 billion. Tanzania will bear $1.3 billion and Rwanda will have to spend $1.2 billion.

Asked about the funding source and funding model of the megaproject, Minister Mbarawa, without revealing details, said: »There are different funding models, but we will consider one that is better for Tanzanians and Rwandans. At the moment, we cannot say exactly what model we are going to adopt because we are not there yet ».

The « Isaka-Kigali » railway project was launched on 20 January in Dar es Salaam by Mr James Musoni Rwandan Minister of Infrastructure and Professor Mbarawa. It happened barely a week after Presidents Paul Kagame and John Pombe Magufuli signed an agreement that will see the two countries begin joint construction of the railway in January.
