TPDF all out to offer engineers for SGR construction project
TANZANIA People’s Defence Force (TPDF) is all out to offer more engineers to participate in the ongoing construction of Standard Gauge Rail (SGR).


Currently, there are about 57 young engineers in different cadres including civil engineers and mechanics participating in the construction of the SGR project.

The Chief of Defence Force, General Venance Mabeyo disclosed this yesterday after a tour to view the ongoing construction of the SGR in Soga, Coast Region.

He said TPDF experts will closely work together with their counterparts in TRC and SGR projects to ensure the iconic project is completed.

"It is a big opportunity for us to be part of the ongoing SGR project. We are ready to send more of our experts to participate in the project anytime in case we were told to do so," he said.

He however assured the public that the participation of experts in the project was to share knowledge and acquire more skills from different cadres.

CDF commended the remarkably success achieved by the management of Tanzania Railway Corporation (TRC), adding that it was a point of lesson.

The TPDF boss said according to the management of TRC, the construction had reached at 28.4 per cent.

General Mabeyo said as part of its duties, TPDF will further strengthen its collaboration with the management of TRC, a move aimed at protecting nation security against vandalism and sabotage.

"Upon completion of the SGR construction, the rail will have great advantages to the national development in particular TPDF since it will facilitate the movement of its equipment.

Furthermore, he said that the rail will stimulate economic activities and reduce unnecessary costs of rehabilitation of roads.

He explained that by constructing the new rail, Tanzania will be able to move further steps ahead and position herself into international status.

For his part, the SGR manager engineer Maizo Mgedze said the construction had reached 28 per cent.

He said further that the government had already paid 1.3 trn/- all from its domestic sources.

Engineer Mgedzi added that SGR is now seeking to employ more 10,000 workers from different cadres anytime from now apart from the present 5,100 workers.

"Our target is to speed up construction of the project and recover the time wasted due to heavy rains," he said.

The manager explained that once the project starts operating it will reduce costs the government incurs to renovate roads.

In so doing, it will be extending the life span of the roads contrary to how it was before.

Give us a break guys. Who ever heard of a client donating resources to the contractor who is being paid to execute a project? If this is true then this is idiotic, why donate resources and still pay the contractor? What does this government take us for, imbeciles?

By whose definition, ccm's? And to whom is this technology being transferred to, Turkey? Remember it is the client who is donating engineers (skilled not interns) to speed up the project implementation.
