All’s set for ambitious SGR second phase to tick

PLANS are afoot to officially launch the 1.923 billion US dollar (over 4tri/-) construction of the 336-kilometre Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Morogoro to Dodoma.

The groundbreaking ceremony to lay a foundation stone that signals the kicking off of the second phase of the SGR project is scheduled at Makutupora area in the country’s capital, Dodoma, according to Reli Assets Holding Company (RAHCO).

The second phase of the country’s ambitious project comes barely nine months after President John Magufuli launched the first phase of theSGR, which according to RAHCO Acting Managing Director, Masanja Kadogosa, is progressing well. Phase two of SGR stretches from Morogoro to the political capital of Dodoma, covering 336 kilometres.

Once the project is complete, the government plans to introduce fast and a modern train with a speed of 160kph. The freight train on the other side will have a maximum speed of 120kph.

Speaking in an interview with the ‘Daily News,’ Mr Kadogosa said the second phase of the project whose completion is set in 2020 is due for commencement and all preparations are in order. “We are currently finalizing the logistics within the government and later we will notify the public as to when we will lay the foundation stone for the project,’’ he said.

The government of Turkey expressed interest to fund the SGR project from Morogoro to Dodoma when President Recep Erdogan toured Tanzania last year. The second phase includes the design and construction of 336 kilometres from Morogoro to Makutopora.

Other phases will cover the 294 kilometres from Makutupora to Tabora, 133 kilometres from Tabora to Isaka and 294 kilometres from Isaka to Mwanza. On the first phase, RAHCO chief expressed optimism that the team on the site was progressing well, saying the work will be accomplished within the set deadline.

The first phase of the SGR project is expected to be completed in 2019. In April 2017, President John Magufuli laid the foundation stone for the construction of the first historic SGR line in East and Central Africa, with the capacity to transport 10,000 tonnes of cargo at once, with potential of creating over one million jobs upon completion in 2019.

During the historic event at Pugu, some few kilometres west of Dar es Salaam City, Dr Magufuli stressed that his administration focuses on improving infrastructure to expedite the country’s economic growth.

The 1.215 billion US dollar (about 2.7 tri/-) project that is currently being executed by the contractors, YapiMerkezi of Turkey and Mota-Engil of Portugal, is expected to create over 600,000 job opportunities, including 30,000 direct jobs.

The 30-month project will upon completion enable trains to travel at 160 kilometres per hour. It will also comprise 300 kilometres railway line, with 205 kilometres being the main line and 95 kilometres intersections.

There will also be six main stations and six mini-stations for intersections. And, upon completion, the electrified train will take two hours to travel from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma and after the whole project is complete, it will take less than 10 hours to reach Mwanza, the same distance that currently trains use up to 36 hours to cover.

  7. upo pia uwezekano wa kuongezeka watoto wanaolelewa na mzazi mmoja na mfumuko wa magonjwa ya zinaa na hasa kipindi hiki cha ujenzi kwa kuwa mradi unaajiri watu wengi na unaruhusu fedha zisizoterajiwa ambazo nyingi huishia kuhonga.

Hmm, phase 2 is launched even before construction on phase 1 has even started. It is like the egg of a moth starting to spin silk for the pupa stage even before it has become a larva. Beats the purpose of phasing the project really.

But I do hope itajengwa bila tashwishi, Africa has been the laughing stock for long enough

hivyo kwa wakati huo mwanza hata wasukuma wakiambiwa 50,000/- watalipa ikiwa wanafika siku hiyohiyo ukilinganisha na basi ambalo watafika usiku sana na wakiwa wamechoka sana na itawalazimu wachukue tax kati ya 10,000-20,000

Sidhani kama hii ni kweli. Nauli ya treni dar- kigoma ni 38,000 wakati kwa basi ni 65.

Taarifa ya 2015

Shirika la Reli Tanzania (TRL) limetangaza nauli ya treni mpya ya Deluxe, zilizoidhinishwa na Mamlaka ya Udhibiti wa Usafiri wa Nchi Kavu na Majini (SUMATRA), zitakazoanza kutumika mapema Aprili, mwaka huu.

Kwa mujibu wa taarifa kutoka TRL iliyotolewa jana, nauli hizo ni kutoka vituo vya Dar es Salaam kwenda Kigoma, Kigoma kwenda Dar es Salaam na Mkoa wa Mwanza.
Nauli hizo ni kati ya Sh 77,800 kwa daraja la kwanza ambalo ni la kulala.

Kwa kituo cha Dar es Salaam kwenda Kigoma, nauli zilizoidhinishwa ni kwenda Morogoro daraja la kawaida nauli itakuwa Sh 10,900, daraja la pili nauli itakuwa Sh 14,600 na daraja la kwanza nauli itakuwa Sh 24,300.

Nauli kwenda Dodoma itakuwa Sh 18,500 kwa daraja la kawaida, Sh 24,700 kwa daraja la pili na Sh 41,200 kwa daraja la kwanza, huko nauli kwenda Tabora kutoka Dar nauli ni Sh 25,400 kwa daraja la kawaida, Sh 33,900 daraja la pili na Sh 56,500 kwa daraja la kwanza.

Nauli kwenda Kigoma daraja la kawaida ni Sh 35,700 daraja la pili ni Sh 47,600 na daraja la kwanza ni Sh 79,400 na kwa kituo cha Kigoma kwenda Dodoma nauli ni Sh 23,600 daraja la kawaida, daraja la pili ni Sh 31,400 na daraja la kwanza ni Sh 52,400.

Aidha, nauli kutoka Kigoma kwenda Morogoro ni kati ya Sh 30,900 hadi Sh 68,600 kulingana na daraja na kwamba kutoka Mwanza kwenda Dar es Salaam nauli ni kati ya Sh 6,200 hadi 77,800 kulingana na umbali na daraja.

Mfano, kutoka Mwanza kwenda Malampaka nauli daraja la kawaida ni Sh 6,200 daraja la pili ni Sh 8,300 na daraja la kwanza ni Sh 13,800 na nauli kutoka Mwana kwenda Dodoma nauli ni kati ya Sh 22,800 hadi Sh 50,600 kulingana na daraja.

Na nauli kutoka Mwanza kwenda Dar es Salaam nauli Sh 35,00 kwa daraja la kawaida, daraja la pili Sh 46,700 na daraja la kwanza Sh 77,800.

Awali akizungumzia usafiri huo, Meneja Biashara wa Kampuni ya Deluxe, Charles Ndenge alisema usafiri wa treni hizo ni wa kasi na utatumia saa 30, kufika katika mikoa mbalimbali ambayo reli ya TRL inapita na kusimama kwenye vituo vikubwa 14, kati ya vituo 54, vilivyopo.

Alisema treni hiyo ya Deluxe itafanya safari zake mara moja kwa wiki kwa kupokezana na mikoa ya Kigoma na Mwanza na kuwa itatumia mabehewa yenye ubora na kupunguza msongamano.

"Kutakuwa na behewa moja zuri la huduma za chakula na vinywaji na mawasiliano", alisema Ndenge.

Akizungumzia muundo wa treni hiyo ya Deluxe, alisema itakuwa na mabehewa 10 ya daraja la tatu, ambapo kila moja litabeba abiria 80, mabehewa manne ya daraja la pili kila moja litabeba abiria 60, wa kukaa na mabehewa sita ya kulala ya daraja la kwanza kila moja litabeba abiria 36.

Aidha aliongeza vichwa vya treni vimejengwa upya na kuwekewa teknolojia mpya na kutengenezwa makochi mapya.
