Schools all over the country are set to reopen today (Thursday) after a two-week break for the General Election held on August 9th. Even as learning resumes, concerns abound over the disruption of the school calendar for this term with Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Prof. George Magoha on Wednesday reiterating that the learning schedule would not be extended to allow learners to make up for time lost during the polls.
The program might further be affected should the Supreme Court order a rerun of the presidential elections after Azimio la Umoja coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga expressed intention challenge the election outcome at the Supreme Court.
According to Magoha, schools will have to adapt to the changes to ensure that learners who will sit for the national exams in November are done with the set syllabus before the assessments come calling.
He likewise underscored that schools will not close again even if the Supreme Court orders a rerun of the presidential polls.
