ber An agreement is reached between Britain
and Germany designating a 10-mile
(16 km) wide strip of land along the coast
as being controlled by Sultan Barghash
bin Said, along with Zanzibar, Pemba, and
Mafia. The area that is to become
Tanganyika is assigned to Germany while
the area will become Kenya is assigned to
Britain.[12]
