It will be the tallest tower in the city, at least for a while.
The plans for 47 storey mixed use building by a Chinese state-owned aerospace and defense company, Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC International) have been approved by Nema and City Hall.
The Sh20bn structure will be its African headquarters, Avic joins several major foreign companies that have chosen Nairobi as their Africa base.
It is being built to the west of Chiromo lane bordering Westlands road to the north, Mirage Towers and Athi River Mining (Rhino Cement) headquarters offices to the Southwest.
TALLEST TOWERS
The current completed tallest tower in Nairobi is the UAP Park Towers which is 163m tall with 33 levels.
Some of the similar ongoing landmark projects within Nairobi include the Britam Towers (38 levels) in Upper Hill, Hazina Trade Centre in Nairobi (38 levels) CBD, Jabavu Towers in Upper Hill (70 levels), FCB Tower in Kilimani, KCB Plaza in Upper Hill (20 levels).
Last Friday, the Nairobi City County Government received Sh97 million from Avic International’s president Mr Liu Jun, as fees for construction of the building on 7 acres of land in Westlands.
“This is the highest amount received as payment for construction permission in Nairobi County,” Dr Kidero said, adding, “AVIC International Real estate will construct a 47 storey mixed use building in Westlands, (the tallest building in Nairobi)”.
The building will comprise a hotel, commercial and residential units as well as offices. Avic has investments spanning sectors such as real estate, aviation and consumer goods.
