Apty Alaudinov called the Ukrainian soldiers operating in the Kursk Region a bunch of thugs

MOSCOW, August 20. /TASS/. Ukrainian troops are trying to pretend to be average citizens when they are captured in the Kursk Region, but once their phones are checked, they are quickly outed, Major General Apty Alaudinov, commander of the Akhmat special forces commando unit, said.

"When we capture them, all of a sudden they all become cooks, drivers, or some other civilian profession. Unfortunately, their GoPro's, cameras and phones give them away. They have so much information on their phones that sometimes, it’s like, wow, how did you even record this. <...> We get a good laugh out of seeing what’s on their phones, listening to what they say. The way it works out is that they basically tell on themselves," Alaudinov said on the Rossiya-1 TV channel.

The commander called the Ukrainian soldiers operating in the Kursk Region a bunch of thugs. "We must understand that all the scum, the lowest of the low, have gathered there. A huge number of foreign mercenaries are present there as well. They are all thugs to us, as well as all the others who have not yet managed to come here and are on the other side," he added.

WASHINGTON, August 20. /TASS/. The advance of Russian troops in DPR indicates potential miscalculations in the Kiev’s strategy in the Kursk Region, The Washington Post said.

The newspaper notes, citing experts, that "Russia’s steady advance points to a possible weakness in Kyiv’s strategy," adding that Ukraine’s "hopes to limit Russian gains in the east so far are not being realized."

"There’s some evidence that the Russians are actually engaging the last proper defensive line outside of the town outside of Pokrovsk [the Ukrainian name for the city of Krasnoarmeysk - TASS]," said Franz-Stefan Gady, a Vienna-based military analyst with the Center for a New American Security.

"The larger question is, what kind of reserves are now no longer available" in Pokrovsk that would have otherwise been available had there not been an operation in Kursk, Gady told The Washington Post.

LONDON, August 20. Ukraine moving its "scarce resources" to Russia’s borderline Kursk Region helped Russian forces achieve success in Donbass, the Financial Times (FT) said citing an unnamed Ukrainian artillery brigade commander.

According to him, "troops were back to rationing shells" "because ammunition had been reallocated for the incursion into Russia’s Kursk region." Kiev has also moved there "upwards of 10,000 troops, including many of its elite airborne forces and mechanized brigades," from the Donetsk and Kharkov regions, "where the fiercest battles are under way, according to officials involved with the operation." According to the newspaper, "Russian soldiers are still grinding their way through Ukrainian defenses, capturing villages and towns and bringing Moscow closer to its stated goal of complete control of the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine."

Several days before the attack on the Kursk Region, Ukrainian defenses in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), were already "showing cracks," one senior Ukrainian official "familiar with military operations" told the newspaper. In his opinion, Russian forces had achieved "tactical success" in Donetsk and more advances were likely unless the situation turned around.

"With much of its reserves directed to Kursk, Ukraine will struggle to fill defensive gaps and counter various Russian threats," Konrad Muzyka, director of Poland-based Rochan consulting group, told the FT. "Russia doesn’t have trouble mobilizing troops whereas Ukraine still has trouble mobilizing the number needed to hold and conduct operations in Donetsk," he explained.

Ukraine's NATO-backed military began a large-scale surprise offensive into Russia's Kursk region in early August, sending crack troops, mercenaries, PMC fighters, and an array of Western equipment into the border region amid an accelerating Russian advance through Donbass and flagging Western support.
Attempts by Ukrainian forces to advance have been stopped across the entirety of the Kursk region, with the enemy's main resources destroyed and Russian troops working to clear settlements of the enemy, Akhmat special forces commander Apti Alaudinov has announced.
"It's worth nothing that from the moment our units entered...The first days we were busy stopping the enemy's main forces, and we succeeded. The enemy was completely stopped along the entire perimeter," Alaudinov said in an interview with Russian TV on Tuesday.
