Russian forces pound Ukrainian military airfields, ammo depots over past day — top brass

MOSCOW, December 24. /TASS/. Russian forces struck Ukrainian military airfields, ammunition depots and amassed enemy manpower and military hardware in more than 140 areas over the past day in the special military operation in Ukraine, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday.

"Operational/tactical aircraft, attack unmanned aerial vehicles, missile troops and artillery of the Russian groups of forces struck the infrastructure of military airfields, ammunition depots, warehouses of unmanned aerial vehicles and amassed enemy manpower and military equipment in 146 areas," the ministry said in a statement.
 
The armed conflict in Ukraine will end in 2025, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in an interview with the Magyar Nemzet newspaper.

"The war [in Ukraine] will end in 2025. It will end either with a peace agreement or with the collapse of one of the belligerents," he forecasted.

He recalled that "America and Europe have spent about 300 billion euros on the war [in Ukraine]."

"With this money, we could have achieved a fast rise in the standard of living in all of Europe. We could have raised the entire Balkans to the level of European development. We could have curbed migration and built a completely new European defense system. But this money was wasted," Orban lamented.

LUGANSK, December 25. /TASS/. Russian troops have intensified counterattacks near Belogorovka in the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) in the past few days, military expert Andrey Marochko told TASS.

Ukrainian soldiers have been complaining to officers about increased pressure from Russian troops near that settlement, Marochko said, citing intercepted data. "In the past few days, our units <…> have counterattacked the frontline positions of Ukrainian troops near Belogorovka. It’s worth noting that our fighters, supported by artillery, armored vehicles and the Aerospace Forces, have been advancing round the clock," he added.

MOSCOW, December 25. /TASS/. Russian air defenses intercepted and destroyed 59 Ukrainian drones over various Russian regions in the early hours of Wednesday, the Defense Ministry said.

"Overnight, on-duty air defenses intercepted and destroyed 59 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles. A total of 26 drones were downed over the Belgorod Region, 23 over the Voronezh Region, three over the Kursk Region, three over the Bryansk Region, three over the Tambov Region and one over the Azov Sea waters," the ministry said.

Trump doesn’t want repeat of Minsk agreements — Kellogg

He expressed hope that the US president-elect will be able to achieve a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine in a "relatively near term."

NEW YORK, December 24. /TASS/. US President-elect Donald Trump does not want a repeat of the Minsk agreements, said Keith Kellogg, who is tapped to be the special envoy for Ukraine in the incoming administration.

"We've seen peace processes happen in the past. They've tried with Ukraine and Russia and the Minsk process, and failed visibly. The president's not going to go there," he said in an interview with Fox Business. "He wants a peace that's going to be fair, it's going to be sustainable, it's going to be secure."

"He understands the importance of the relations he's got with his allies and also with [Russian President] Vladimir Putin as well," Kellogg went on to say.
