MOSCOW, January 6. /TASS/. The Ukrainian military command has turned Kurakhovo in the Donetsk People’s Republic into a fortified stronghold over the past 10 years, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"Over ten years, the Kiev regime turned it into a powerful fortified area with the developed network of permanent firing positions and underground communications," the ministry noted.

According to the military agency, the Ukrainian army has amassed over 15,000 troops in Kurakhovo, including elite units, nationalist formations and foreign mercenaries.

Russian units have more room for maneuvering following the taking of Kurakhovo which aids in increasing the rates of liberating the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"After the liberation of Kurakhovo,

Establishing control over the town of Kurakhovo in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) has substantially hindered combat service support to the Ukrainian armed forces, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"Taking control over this important logistics hub has significantly hindered combat service support to the Ukrainian military grouping in the Donetsk area, depriving the Kiev regime of the opportunity to use artillery systems to shell civilians in the city of Donetsk, the capital of the DPR," the ministry said in a statement.

Russian forces have crushed Kiev’s latest attempt to expand its military foothold in the Kursk Region, destroying ten Ukrainian tanks along with several other armored vehicles in a counteroffensive, the Defense Ministry has said.

In a statement on Monday, military officials in Moscow said Russian troops “continue to rout the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ formations in the Kursk Region.”

According to the ministry, the Ukrainian advance focused on the town of Bolshoye Soldatskoye, and Russian forces have destroyed Kiev’s main strike group with the support of the Air Force and artillery.

In the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian military has lost a total 485 troops, ten tanks, seven infantry fighting vehicles, five armored personnel carriers, an artillery gun, an electronic warfare system and multiple other vehicles in Kursk Region, the statement reads.

In a separate briefing on Sunday, the Russian Defense Ministry said Ukrainian forces had launched the assault earlier that day in the hope of “stopping the advance of Russian troops.”

Dozens of recruits have reportedly deserted the elite ‘Anne of Kiev’ brigade

Dozens of Ukrainian soldiers have deserted from an elite brigade while training in France, AFP reported on Monday, citing a French army official.

The 155th Mechanized Brigade was meant to be a flagship Ukrainian unit, trained and equipped by France. Named ‘Anne of Kiev’ after the daughter of a medieval prince, Yaroslav the Wise, who married French King Henry I, the unit was personally inspected by French President Emmanuel Macron in northeast France in October.

Around 2,300 of the soldiers have been trained in France, and 2,200 more in Ukraine.

Without disclosing the number of deserters, the official who spoke to AFP claimed they “remain very marginal given the volume of people who have undergone training.”

“They were in French barracks, they had the right to go out,” the official said, adding that the soldiers were subjected to a disciplinary regime “imposed by the Ukrainian command.” The official stressed that France had no authority to arrest the deserters.

“Yes, there are problems, we are aware of them,” Mikahil Drapaty, the recently appointed commander of Ukraine’s Land Forces, told AFP news agency.

Putin May Consider Ukraine’s NATO Membership in Exchange for Concessions

Russian forces hit infrastructure of military airfields, weapons depots in 164 districts

MOSCOW, January 7. /TASS/. The Russian Armed Forces have hit the infrastructure of military airfields, weapons depots, and concentrations of equipment of the Ukrainian armed forces and mercenaries in 164 districts over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.

"Operational-tactical aviation, attack unmanned aerial vehicles, missile troops, and artillery groups of the Russian Armed Forces damaged the infrastructure of military airfields, weapons depots, as well as concentrations of personnel and equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and foreign mercenaries in 164 districts,"the ministry said.

Russian air defense systems downed 6 HIMARS projectiles and 50 unmanned aerial vehicles of the Ukrainian Armed Forces over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.

“Air defense systems shot down 6 projectiles of the US HIMARS multiple launch rocket system and 50 aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles,” the report said.
