The fashion world took a huge loss when supermodel Naomi Sims died on August 3, 2009, after a long battle against breast cancer. She was considered the “first Black supermodel” for gracing the cover of Ladies Home Journal in November 1968, a time when Black models were rare on the spreads of magazines.
