Political leadership requires a leader to focus on a country’s long-term betterment, above and beyond any short-term personal gains. Strong political leadership requires a mixture of charm and honesty, and the capacity to evaluate a circumstance and make a judgment based on what will be better for the majority and the country as a whole.
1. Good communicator
Until you communicate your vision clearly to your team and tell them the strategy to accomplish the goal, you’ll find it very difficult to get the results you want. To put it simply, if you can’t effectively communicate your message to your team, you can never be a good leader. Words can get people motivated and make them do the unimaginable. If you are making effective use of them, you can also achieve better results.
2. Honesty and Integrity
Honesty and Integrity are two main elements that make for a strong leader. A good won’t demand integrity from his citizens and supporters if he/she neglects to practically demonstrate the qualities described thereof. Leaders excel because they hold to their basic principles and convictions, and that won’t be possible without ethics.
3. Decision maker
A good leader should be capable of making the right decision at the right time and right place. Leaders take actions that have a huge impact on the people. A leader should think long and hard before taking a decision but stand by it once the decision is made.
4. Must be able to inspire others
A good leader should perform duties beneficial to the majority of citizens and the interests of the country to convince the people to follow the road map. This will only be done by providing a clear example and encouraging your followers. A leader should think optimistically, and with a positive attitude evident from the actions he discharges. A leader should keep tranquility under strain and retain a degree of encouragement. When a good leader excels in inspiring their colleagues and citizens he/she will comfortably resolve every challenge now and in the future.
5. Must delegate tasks effectively
Focusing on core duties is vital for effective leaders while leaving the rest to others, hence empowering and delegating tasks to the subordinates. When a leader micromanages the subordinates, there are shall emerge a lack of trust that tremendously grows, and, most significantly may feel unwilling to work on critical things as he/she should. Different duties should be delegated among the subordinates and see how they perform. Provide them with all the tools and help that they need to attain the target and allow them to bear the responsibilities and be accountable for their actions.
6. Man with a vision and purpose
Influential leaders have intent and vision. Not only can they imagine the future, but they also express their dreams with their supporters. If their fans could see the larger picture, they could understand where they are headed. A strong leader discusses why they are going on the path that they are heading and reveals the approach and course of action to accomplish the purpose.
A political leader’s first goal should be representing one’s government, not just oneself. Given the reality that politics may be complicated and often disordered, a strong leader should balance their actions with what is right for a nation, ready to die for it and live by the maxim. A good political leader should be able to take severe actions against those who squander the public assets for personal advancement, and the corrupt, he should take strict actions against the oppressors of the poor people, in the interest of the country if required. A leader should be able to recognize unique sector specialists who are confident, creative, and innovative. A good leader should realize when it is best to believe in authority. A democratic leader should recognize the benefits and most importantly, the disadvantages of democracy, and guide, honor, and listen to his supporters while encouraging mutual accountability and teamwork. A political leader should travel widely, attend important gatherings within the country to directly listen to and resolve issues and concerns escalated by the citizens, and participate in interactions with other leaders outside the country. This is an imperative approach for the leader to establish valuable networks and expertise with other internationally prominent leaders so as to be a global perspective leader.
Optimism
Great leaders are optimistic and consistently look for the good in all successes, failures, and challenges. These leaders encourage the citizens to look for the ‘silver lining’ when things might have not gone as well as expected. They teach that there is always something to learn. Timely encouragement is a ritual. Independence to learn and grow from our experiences is a gift. Leaders search for solutions and set goals to improve. They look for a positive outlook with positive thinking; optimistic leaders tend to see the good in people and organizations and believe in favorable results. Optimistic leaders encourage their people to encounter challenges means that leaders which are negatively oriented thus harness possibilities and opportunities.
Passion
Strong leaders are passionate about the citizens' concern and transformational styles of leadership, which value quality, innovation, and caring. They do not disappoint the citizens' ambitions to achieve high and do not undermine their citizens' capability
Vision
Effective leaders envision success and possibilities. They consistently paint a clear and positive picture of the future. A leader’s vision provides decisive goals for team success; an exceptional leader shows you the way to the objective. A clear vision helps the team see what it will achieve and eventually become. Vision grabs attention, pulls people together, inspires, influences, and focuses people on the central mission:
the team. Vision creates action and morphs followers into leaders. Leaders with vision are truly transformational and demonstrate self-confidence for the road ahead. They are not paralyzed by fear or anxiety. Leaders with vision understand the context and culture of the leadership situation. They desire to make things better. Always dedicated and committed, these leaders understand the grand design; stay aligned to achievable goals, strategies, systems, leadership, and culture. They focus on improving their people and results.
Should consider his citizens first
Effective leaders are competent, skilled, secure, and considerate. Effective leaders; are genuine and authentic in their communications and actions. People matter to them, and they openly demonstrate this fact to their citizens. They care about them and their success. They want their citizens to know that they are valued; these leaders look out for their citizens’ well-being and want them to feel good. Effective leaders maintain high morale throughout their workforce down to the citizens always staying engaged, attending one-on-one meetings, initiating dialogue, sharing information, building trust, establishing respect, and care for their teams, and restoring discipline within the government and public officials. Effective leaders work to achieve positive relations and results. Effective leaders enhance key business drivers that include but are not limited to cash, profits, growth, asset utilization, and people, whereas strong leaders know people are the most important resource to empower for sustainable goals achievement.
