Tanzania: 78% of People Affected By Food Shortages - Study

78% is too big even its skipping a meal.....only 3 million Kenyans are affected with such

Don't confuse btn skipping a meal and starving, those who starve hav nothing to eat but meal skippers have something to eat!

A person who says something is impossible should not interrupt the person who is doing it.

But watu 78% kufail ni trickide

If we failed by 78%, it's the moment 100%of Kenyans were starving!

Hebu nikumbushe lile bunge la dharula mliitisha kujadili nini eti?

Ulishaona nchi inapewa donations kama only 6% ndo hawana chakula?

Israel donated, China donated, Mkaenda kununua mahindi Mexico, now zambia baada ya sisi kuwanyima!

But look at us, we have bought no where!

A person who says something is impossible should not interrupt the person who is doing it.

Nikupostie zile map za Fao/ Wfp from 2010?

Mnashinda mkisema ati Kenya nchi ya njaa na Tz imerankiwa as having the third worst case of stunted growth as a result of poor nutrition in Africa.

UNICEF Tanzania - Nutrition - Overview

Na ndio maana unaona hapo yanaongelewa madini/minerals, vitamins and the likes!

Let me tell you! Nutrition inaongelewa hapa maana jamii zetu za kiafrika watu wanayegemea chakula cha aina moja! this is somehow bad to the young who need a balanced diet!

Siku korea/Japan wakipata njaa utaona wanaagiza Spaghetti /Noodles kutoka Italy ama china maana ndo chakula chao kikuu

A person who says something is impossible should not interrupt the person who is doing it.

Since when you ask for my permission to post anything on JF. Does lack of nutrition translate to hunger? The topic was about hunger, Kenya has hunger, Tanzania hasn't. Kenya receivers food donation, Tanzania doesn't. Kenya has food rationing, Tanzania ......well you know the rest.

Correction!! Maize flour rationing, not food rationing.

And yes. Malnutrition leading to stunted growth is the hallmark of unavailabity of enuff food.

The other form of malnutrition which is gaining prevalence in Kenya than in any other country in this region is this...

Study: Most Kenyan women are obese or overweight

So, if Kenya is a food scarce country, how comes then obesity is a problem?

If Tz if a food abundant country, why then is stunted growth among children so.prevalent?

Let me tel you this!

1; About Northern kenya being a desert!
This sounds absurd for a country that claims to be a middle income to sterve simply because a small proportion of it is said to be a desert!

With your income you could have increased production in other areas and supplement the rest of the country. Alternatively, you could have established irrigation schemes in that part of northern Kenya, but see, neither of these is implemented!

My friend, look at Egypt, the whole country is a desert! But they never mind abt this, they irrigate big areas enough to feed them and ship abroad.

2; Abt Kenya having a large number of refugees! Ni kweli you may have them, lakini kama njaa ingekuwa kwenye fefugee camps pekee, the story could be different! Tungekuwa tunaona headings zinahusu njaa kwenye refugee camps basi! But the story here ni kuwa Kenyans ndo wana sterve! Not refugees peke yao!

3; Kuhusu kenyans media kuliport, he he heee naona umeishiwa! Unasema we die silently? First of all nobody has ever died!

Secondly, even if our local media won't report, international media zingekuwa zimejaa report za namna hiyo!

Now can you bring us any hunger report written by an international media but never appearing in our local headlines?

Food scarcity and endemic poverty is the main cause of stunted growth and early deaths among chiksren b4 thet attain the age of five.

If u are going to dispute that report from the USaid, see the Ipp report below....

I have explained to you the different btn nutrition and hunger! Besides, This thread isn't abt nutrition! it's bt hunger & food shortage!

Maize is main staple food in Kenya, masikini ambao ni wengi they survive on Ugali. Rice chapati and the rest is not on poor Man's shopping list. If there isn't enough maize Kenya will go hungry, plain and simple.

The issue of stunt kids is easy to solve than hunger, stunt kid lack of added nutrients which can easily be top up in already available food. Hunger is the whole new ball game, no food means no food, you can't perform "five loaves two fish miracle" to feed the masses.

This thread is about hunger and food shortage, and my links above talk about that exactly.

Like I said, there is a correlation btwn poor nutrition leading to stunted growth and early death among children, and inadequate availability of food.
Jst peruse both reports, they make for uncomfortable reading, I understand.

No the reports don't make reading uncomfortable!

Yes, I understand the relationship that exists btn nutrition and growth, and inadequate availability of food

But the truth remains that tz has adequate supply of food! That's why you drop down to the south in seek for food every single moment you encounter hunger!

Psst! Blah blah blah u are arguing against, and denying those disturbing statistics about the prevalence of, and the very depressing effects of food shortage in Tanzania by consoling yourselves about the food situation in Kenya and the fact that we buy your maize.

Cmon! You better smell the coffee brah. Your country, unlike Kenya isnt very forthcoming with the reality of the food situation there.

Wfp, Fao, USAid, Undp and all the other reputable sources cannot all be conjuring up false stories about the extent of the problem in Tanzania. They are the same same bodies that give the very reports about about Kenya that u guys always rub on our faces.

Now get these....

a) Tanzania is grappling with worse case of malnitrition (the type involving shortage of food or nutritious food) than Kenya.

b) whilst Kenya suffers the type of malnutrition involving the excessive consumption of food high in fats and carbs making Kenya the most obese society in the region and the third in Africa.

Btw........check out the third table in this report to understand why Kenya just has to import so much maize

Global maize production, utilization, and consumption

The first thing to consider when we talk abt food production is "PRODUCTION AT NATIONAL LEVEL".Go reread those reports from the organisations you said! The headlines show that Tanzania produces sufficient food at national level contrary to Kenya where there is no sufficient production at national level! This is why we don't import food, whilst you do.

However, No country can be uniform, especially to the least and developing countries! Like it is in Kenya, some parts of our country are semi arid hence limited food production. But people from these area get their food from the nearby regions unlike in Kenya where in a situation like this, food ought to be imported!

IMG_20170718_162047.jpg

Take a look at the above attachment! Despite the fact that the areas marked in red produces insufficient food, yet they are supplemented from the green marked regions!

Now why is tz sometimes described as food insecure? Let's go back & see what food security means!

Food security, as defined by the United Nations’ Committee on World Food Security, is the condition in which all people, at all times, have physical, social and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life.

Since the semiarid areas expect food from other parts, be it they buy themselves or the government intervenes, the concept of food security is already altered!

However this is where the difference btn kenya and tz comes! When tz government intervenes by supplying food from high producing area to other parts, the Kenyan gvt has to import it from any nation, preferably tz! There4, kenyans suffer more than tz do!

Bro, I can assure you, it is so difficult to completely put a country at 100% food secure, even to the developed countries! Take an example of the USA, it's the major global food producer, but as we speak, 12.7% of the households and 1person in every 6 suffer from food insecurity! See here!

Coming to the issue of Poor nutrition, it's an issue our country as an LDC needs to address and take appropriate actions! Oul local are still poor, despite that they hav sufficient food but they lack proper education on how to feed the infants and youths! This is a global issue anyway, even the developed countries face the same thing!
