Tanzania: 78% of People Affected By Food Shortages - Study

Tanzania: 78% of People Affected By Food Shortages - Study

Too bad that I have limited time these days to spend arguing on the social media, otherwise ningeanzisha thread to discuss how much of the different kinds of foods Kenya produces/ consumes/ exports annually in comparison with Tz,ili tuwekane sawa.

Your agricultural output, and here I am referring to the food production, does not exceed ours. Not by such a significant margin.

Look at the amout of some selected grains, esp the staples such as maize both countries produced last year and the year b4:

www.fao.org/giews/countrybrief/country.jsp?code=KEN

www.fao.org/giews/countrybrief/country.jsp?code=TZA

Even though Kenya does not produce as much grain as Tanzania, it's effort I can say is quite impressive, given the that only 17% of the land is arable, and not even the whole of the fertile portion has been put under foodcrops production.

Na hapo hatujaweka fruits, vegetables, milk and meat etc.

Kenya also produces and exports foodstuff, the cases of hunger, and the fact that we import maize from u guys do not change that fact.

Hayo majarida yote uanaongelea hicho, food shortage sio hunger!

Angalia Israel and the likes!

By the way, unasema production ya Kenya ikoje? Pitia tena hz takwimu ulizoleta hapa

Kataa ukubali, hali ya lishe bado tatizo sana hapo Tanzania, even with all the food u claim to produce.

Lakini ka nchi hako kadogo last time ndo kamewapa msaada wa chakula!

Hivyo narudia tena kusingizia ardhi haina rutuba mara nini hizo ni porojo! Well tuseme basi hivyo ndo vikwazo vyenu, then kubali kuwa kuna njaa kuliko tz, lakini eti bado inang'aka misuri kuonyesha kenya haina njaa kama tz! Lol!

But Kenya is feeding well over 90% of its population, besides being the continental leader in the production of some food varieties and the cash crops and the beef abd milk production.

Kenya has one of the most mechanized agricultural sectors in Africa, and indeed the most mechanized in the region.

Agriculture contributes 25% to our economy, and Kenya earns more revenue from agriculture than Tanzania.

Wacha kutudanganya hapa brother!

Hyo mechanised structure unayoisema inatumika kuzalisha maua na otherr cash crops sio staple crops! The 25% contribution you are talking abt inatokana na cash crops!

Mechanized agriculture has also been extended to food production in Kenya, esp in the meat and dairy industry, fruits and vegetables, wheat, barley, sorghum, maize and potatoes farming.
You know that we produce some of these foods more than u do.

If we were depending only on the rudimentary farm implements like your farmers, who cant even feed their children properly, we would have been producing only a fraction of what we produce now. But is Kenya a net importer of food? No!

Kenya asks for international food aid mainly to assist the refugees, and as for plugging the food grain shortage, it imports.

Surely, u are disputing that Kenya does not feed upto 90% of its pipo from its food production output, yet the reports on food shortage always quote figures ranging from 1 to 5mln pipo on brink of starvation.

You produce what your local can't eat!

In this way, you will go on starving

All these foods are necessary in order to supplement the nutritional needs of the population, we cannot depend just on one type of food alone.

Maize is undoubtedly the most preferred food in Kenya and clearly the most grown by our farmers.
It is the most harvested grain- crop in the country.

Depending on weather circumstances, the country producess btwn 3mln and 4mln tonnes of the grain, against the demand of 5 or 6mln.

Maize does not do well in the country however, thus the current concerted effort by the govt and crops researchers to develop and introduce a new variety that can withstand most of the adverse conditions in the country and mature fast.

This variety was introduced last year:

www.nation.co.ke/business/New-maize-varieties-get-approval-for-sale/996-3224532-h7tv44/index.html

We are hopping that this will boost our production in the near future.

But no one can deny that if Kenyans were more accepting of the other grain varieties grown in the country, tgere would be no need to import maize. Thatn case of shortage, pipo would just switch to the other carbohydrate foods.
But it tough changing that attitude.

People tend to eat what they produce! If maize don't do well, where did this habbit of eating ugali than any other food come from?

Guys you need to put more efforts in food production, especially what your people prefer!

Hii tabia ya kuomba omba chakula kila siku is a shame to our block!

Sawa, that is what we are doing.

Na nyinyi pia do sumthin about the high child mortality rate, limb deformation and stunting due to malnutrition.

Nynyi ndio mfanye hima zaidi, manake hizi sasa ndizo the mother of all shame to our region!
