Kenya is a Kleptocracy, but Nyerere was a socialist and Tanzania remains one of the poorest countries in the world today. All these African countries need to become richer; The per capita incomes need to go up. It's really quite ridiculous when one looks at the entire continent

A 0.7 difference is not that impressive considering Tanzania has a bigger population than Kenya and the GDP per capita is still lower.

We r getting there don't worry by 2020 that gap will rise considering we will be growing over 7.1%. We grew 6.9-7% in 2017.

While Kenya’s GDP growth is likely to be in the range of 5-6% in the next two years, that is 2018 and 2019, that of Tanzania is projected to be in the region of 6.5 and 7.5%.

Tanzania ranks with Rwanda in terms of the economic growth rate for the next two years.

Kenya and Tanzania Can Weather Economic Shocks

Actually there is a need to rebase the Tanzanian GDP or their government is deliberately undervalueing their currency(Tsh) the way china does to promote their exports.
And since Tz exports are almost twice what kenya exports which has a larger GDP.
Hard to belive that Kenya(middle income) can get thrashed in both GDP (PPP) AND GNI by a LDC

I was thinking the same or Kenya has over-rebased her GDP. I serious doubt if Kenya’s GDP is above $70bln! Time will tell...

According to the data from the main source( unlike you I opened the website)
Tanzanias life expectancy in 2016 was 65.675 ( unlikely for it to be lower than 64 in 2017).
And according to Google which collects all data and find a mean expectancy ( even from worldlifeexpectancy.com) Tanzanias life expectancy was 65.49 and Kenyas was 62.13 in 2015.
The data from world bank ends in 2016 and in 2015 for Google.

After the rebasing, your GDP grew more than Kenya's. I wonder who is really 'over-rebasing' assuming that's even a word.

Don't worry my broda, that's a paper or norminal GDP. But a real one is far bellow a half of it.

Lets just use common sense, a person with no food and no job cant be expected to be around longer than some one with excess food and a job

Why are you still talking about GDP andd GDP growth rate... I think we have established that it doesnt really matter in this case.. GNI is about the real people... Like the value of what they produce, own..etc.. Like for example if you have a shamba and you produce maize or milk and sell to your neigbours and consume the rest..That might not be reflected in your GDP but with GNI you are considered rich based of how much you produce....
In Kenya too we have a plan , the government " big 4" is aimed to solve exactly this issue "food security, healthcare, Housing, manufacturing (jobs)" if we suceed in those four pillars our HDI and GNI will imcrease rapidly in line with the GDP.

And yet an average Kenyan lives longer than an average Tanzanian!

And speaking of sense, it is also commonsense that a country with vast deposits of virtually every valuable mineral deposits will be way richer than a country with worthless deposits...but here we are! Kenya will never make sense, not to you, not to anyone...
