Tanzania is proving to be a liability in EA integration

Nyerere alikuwa tayari kuchelewesha UHURU wa Tanganyika ili Afrika Mashariki ipate uhuru kama nchi moja. Was HE wrong?

Kuna wakati ilikuwa fashion Tanzania kuita Kenya NYANG'AU. Naona OKON bado anapenda kuwaita hivyo.

Lakini hapa Tz tofauti-Can you believe this-Geologist mtanzania na masters yake na experience ya more than ten years anapata take home ya Tsh USD 2000 wakati mughana mwenye sifa hizozo anapata USD 8500.Sasa kwanini mughana asimudharau huyo Geo mtanzania?Na wakenya ndivyo hivyohivyo.

Uswahili gani unaouzungumzia? na kwenye nini tumefanya uswahili? by the way, what is uswahili?
Augustin, Mataifa huwa hayaungani tu kiholela. Hicho ndio kinachozungumzwa hapa.

Tanzania should stay clear and away from these vultures! It is obvious that Kenya, Uganda and the tiny Rwanda and burundi are eyeing Tanzania with a LOT OF LUST....Lust for our land, jobs and opportunities! The simple truth is...We don't need them, but..oh yes, they do need us, big time!

If they see us, Tanzanians as an obstacle, then by all means they should go ahead and form their own clan! Have you ever stopped to think, my Tanzanian brothers and sisters, what we get from kenya, Uganda or Burundi? Nothing much, right? How many Tanzanian products are in Kenya? Not much...nothing really! But Kenyan products are all over Tanzania! Rwandan and Burundian refugees are on the TZ border, only increasing the crime rate and poverty!

Let me cite only one example...we all know that "Tanzanite" is found only in Tanzania right? But do you realize that Tanzanite is sold out there in the world market as coming from kenya?

The bottom line is this...We don't need this union. It didn't benefit us before (and funny enough, Kenya was the one who broke the first EAC), and it will not benefit us tofay! If anything, Tanzania should look at the bigger picture...and YES, associations such as SADC are more beneficial than this petty association with our sworn enemies!

Kenyans have no respect for Tanzanians (their problem really) and they won't start that when and if we associate with them. Kenyans think that they are bringing skills to Tanzania? Hah! These loosers should think again! Kenyans are big opportunists, and even bigger vultures that Tanzania should stay clear away from!

....seems wengi hawataki huu ushirikiano lakini ukiangalia vizuri ni kutokuelewa na arrogance ya hali ya juu ambayo haina maana yoyote, ardhi ya tanzania itabaki ya Tanzania tuu na sijui hiyo idea ya wakenya kuja kuchukua ardhi yetu imetoka wapi? na sijui kama ni kweli wao wanatuhitaji kuliko tunavyowahitaji, sitashangaa nchi zote zikihamishia cargo Mombasa, tutaambulia heavy taxes kutoka nchi zote hizo tukitaka kufanya nao biashara na bureaucracy ya hali ya juu...well,nafikiri wata move on bila sisi maana wenzetu wameshaona arrogance yetu na ukweli hatuna chochote cha kuwazidi...ngoja wenzetu waendelee kuweka mambo sawa na ushirikiano katika Biashara, education, miundo mbinu, technology, security etc na sisi tuendelee na arrogance yetu ya wanataka ardhi yetu or we have this and that, nawashauri wakenya na wengine wafanye muungano wao waachane na ujinga wa watu wasio elewa maana ya ushirikiano!

Actually who needs this integration? For what? I participated in one of the EAC sensitisation seminars in Dodoma and it was quite clear we dont need this thing. If it is too difficult to travelling from Iringa to Kigoma, why should one be interested in travelling to Bukavu or Mogadishu (the two, DRC and Somalia are likely near-future candidate members of the Cooperation/(corporation???). Unless we work to improve our local eanabling environment (miundomibinu), less people need the EAC (probably only those who can fly). Additionally, making movements too easy (just a simple ID) will endenger our long secured security. Imagine a Somali pirate (near-future members of EAC) holding and ID to pirate our harbour?? So, there is still a lot of logic of controlling movements at least through the use of relatively costly papers (it costs Tsh 50,000 to secure a passport in Tanzania) so that a foreign criminal will have to bear additional cost in entering our boarder (I'm told it costs equivalent of Tsh 5000 to buy a gun in Somalia.

This East African Federation thing is a sham. It is breaking up before it can even start.

You don’t have to look further to know why. Tanzania lost big time in the wake of the EAC collapse. While Tanzania was counting losses, Kenya (and Uganda? I don't think so)was smiling, what you see as Kenya Airways today took off from East African Airways of whatever name that was. This is just one example of a shoddy alliance.

The Tanzania of today is more mature, you can't drag us anymore. You may hear of all the slow-motion politics in TZ but that's us. When it comes to geopolitical issues you can't fool us no more. The strategy in TZ at the moment is build the country... soon the road network in TZ will be like no other in EA (I am told there is only one road in Kenya, and Uganda); cities are cropping up like mushrooms; the middle class is growing, albeit slow...

You will soon have to bear with the sleeping giant. We are restoring our brand on tourism so you can no longer fool the world of our exotic attractions, as you continue to pouch yours.

And the people have spoken. They realise this is not something to be rushed at, there are milestones as a country we have to cross, before we could again, start thinking of mergers/unions/federations...

And this is a fact. Without Tanzania, there wouldn't be an East African thing. You have been trying to do this on our backs. We say go ahead, just don't come beg us when things go south.

It turns out; every one's got their eyes fixed on the grand prize: Tanzania.

Thubutu.

LAND IS EVERYTHING. I don't think some of us realize this land issue....With the current land laws, any tom, dick and harry off the union can come here and aquire land...free of charge. How would you like to see your ancestry land (unnocupied, as most land in TZ is at the moment) in your hometown and/or village be owned by a kenyan, Somali or Tutsi? Bring their culture into our country? These people are consumed by rudeness, tribalism, racial/ethnic divides, and yes...GENOCIDE! and much more! Tanzania has no history of any of that, and it shouldn't be written history in the 21st Century. Would any Tanzanian like this kind of garbage at their backyard? I know I wouldn't. We may remain friends and neighbors, but we simply cannot share our heritage with these people, especially our motherland!

The journey to the federation needs to be deliberately carried out, and without careless haste. The interests of all member states must be clearly protected. It just happens that for us Tanzanians, our security precedes the need for a Federation. The fact is that we a surrounded with overly corrupt neighbors, particularly Kenya on the north. If we move in haste and allow people to cross our borders with just Ids, it will be in a way providing free access of somali terrorists into our country.Aren't your ids for sale anyway? I wonder how much your passport costs nowadays.

Similarly be under no illussion that Tanzania economy is 'just a fraction, of that of Kenya. Which data are you using? Is it the one with your unemployment standing at over 43%. I think careful analysis of data will prove that our economies are almost at par, with Tanzania's growth slightly at an edge over yours. So stop making accusation that are with ground, and lets have a debate.

Excuse me...who are you to even suggest that I have no idea? Give a break! I know what I know and I am simply calling "a spade a spade"! I have no hidden agenda other than to protect my country and what is rightfully Tanzanian.

Maybe we should ask who you really are...are you really a Tanzanian? Fear spreading? Where were you when the Hutu/Tutsi genocide took place? Would you like that to happen in Tanzania? Because it's already started in Kabila's country (started with a simple immigrant occupying land in Congo, and look what's happenign now...), and it could happen in Tanzania!

If you are a Kenyan, Ugandan or some other person other than a Tanzanian, then I might understand, but don't tell me that our land will be safe when we all come together as one big happy family!

Kenya wenyewe wanachomana moto kuzuiana wasiingiliane kwenye ardhi zao. Sasa watanzania wataenda kule kukaa wapi?

Are you telling me that coming together with these hooligans will bring milk and honey to Tanzania? or will it DRAIN AWAY all the milk and honey from Tanzania???

I think PEOPLE LIKE YOU are immature and somewhat reduntant to Tanzania. You are clearly not a Tanzanian! You must be from Kisumu, Kericho or whatever, so my advise to you is...Get yourself a life!

This article is very misleading. First of all Tanzania recommended that to avoid costs about creating east african identity cards we should continue using our current passports until a later time when the issue of identity cards is better resolved by all member states. As it is right now not all EA countries have identity cards but all have passports which are currently being used.

Also, Tanzania utterly dismissed the issue of land ownership to foreigners! That is a no-no!!!I agree!!!

Also, the article has a Kenyan slant to it - Rwanda has opened up employment to all EAcans and not only to Kenyans as the article seems to indicate! Shame on the author!

Frankly speaking, I am personally opposed of the EA Federation thing, but hey, that's just me, entitled to my opinion, don't you think?

First, what Union problem? Besides Mizengo Pinda said kwanza hiyo Zanzibar sio nchi - I rest my case!

Second, what does CCM has to do with the EAC issue? Didn't serikali ya awamu ya nne go around the whole country asking for wananchi's opinion, including asasi zote za na zisizo za kiserikali? If I remember correctly hata vyama vya upinzani took a lot of pot-shots at the Federation thing. Come on now, lay off CCM as this is a non-issue.

Thirdly, corruption is everywhere na hao nchi jirani are not better off than we are! Furthermore, where have you been the last week or so? Isn't the country turning a new leaf when it comes to fighting corruption?

Fourthly, the Museveni thing is purely based on heresay and I personally think its another non issue.

My 2 cents..........

Mkuu unaruhusiwa go on!

Njimba

Kwa hiyo hatuwezi kukwepa kuwa CCM has a hand in this. Tatizo liko kwenye chama chetu, let us face it.
