Tazara partnering with South Africa on special tourist trains

Tanzania and Zambia Railway (Tazara) is cooperating with the government of South Africa to bring in Tanzania tourists from South Africa by using special tourist trains. This cooperation will improve tourism and the government will get revenue and boost economic growth.
Speaking to reporters in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Tazara deputy managing director Damas Ndumbalo said the government through the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism would benefit from this cooperation because it would get a substantial amount of revenue.
"We are partnering with South Africa to use special tourist trains from South Africa to bring tourists in the country. We are hopeful that this cooperation will boost the tourist industry in Tanzania, increase revenue to the government and stimulate economic growth and development," he said.
Next month Tazara expects to import four locomotives from China to improve the quality of services provided by Tazara trains.
Ndumbalo urged Tanzanians to utilise Tazara transport because it was cheap and secure.
"I call upon businesspeople to utilise this facility for it is cheap," he said.
Villages, which will benefit from this transport include Mlimba, Mbeya, Nakonde and Kitwe. They will transport minerals like copper, agro-products and fertilisers.
The passenger train will travel to Zambia-Kapirimposhi twice a week from Dar es Salaam

Announcing the new 'Seven Wonders' of nature here, the President and Founder of the Texas (US)-based 'New Seven Wonders,' Dr Philip Imler, revealed that though the seven wonders are not ranked in positions, Serengeti stood out due to its legendary, spellbinding largest migration of large mammals.
Ngorongoro Crater, found within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority, and described as 'The Bowl' in which a variety of wildlife live,' was also voted among the Seven Wonders of Nature while Mount Kilimanjaro, which is Africa's highest mountain, became the third entry from the country

Culture Shock ?

On the northern beaches of Unguja, Zanzibar, an Italian tourist chats with a Maasai security guard while fisherman return with their catch. Once regarded as a mystical island visited by the likes of Stanley, Livingstone and Burton, swaths of Zanzibar have been converted to private resorts for package tourism. These resorts need security and the Maasai are always the first to be contracted as the tribe is still regarded for its unity and strength. These young warriors commonly say that they enjoy their job yet dream of the day that they have enough money to buy a herd of cattle and get married back on the open plains. With the Muslim coastal culture, Maasai guards and tanning tourists, cultures have officially clashed and life goes on in Zanzibar.
