Today Tanzania has received a longest container vessel ever docked at Dar Port of about 265 meters and capable to handle more than 5,000 containers
The longest container vessel ever docked at Mombasa Port was 264 meters thus making the one in Tanzania the longest container vessel ever docked in East Africa region by 1 meter longer.
My Take is Magufuli wants to make the Dar Port the gateway of other landlocked countries in the region and he is doing it very fast. With the coming of such Mega vessels makes our port more competitive in the region.
We should also note that the Dar Port is undergoing a massive expansion and modernization through the deepening and strengthening of the Berths.
Modern automated cranes and Conveyer Belts to handle cargo of Post-Panamax vessels will be installed at the Port. This will increase efficiency in Cargo handling per minute thus making our Port more favourable for shipping companies since cargo handling efficiency per minute is one of there greatest measure for the best port.
Security at Dar Port has also been taken care through installation of modern security systems like CCTV, Razor Beams coupled with the installation of the 4 new Modern Scanners at the exist and entry truck container Gates.
