Washington and Seoul are discreetly putting pressure on Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete to end military cooperation with Pyongyang. Around 18 North Korean military technicians and army officers are believed to be at Dar es Salaam airport repairing the ancient fleet of Soviet MiG-21 fighter-bombers and other military aircraft. Their presence would be in breach of United Nations sanctions imposed in March in the wake of North Koreas nuclear weapons tests and its threats to attack South Korea and the United States.
