[h=4]With only seven days to go until the first Manchester derby of the season, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has taunted City's European record.[/h] After watching his side go three points clear at the top of the Premier League, Sir Alex saw fit to discuss City's Champions League exit, speculating that it might have a negative effect on the morale of Mancini's men.

"Yes, you can have more time on the training ground, but then you have got to deal with the fact that you are not in European football," Ferguson said in today's Express.

"Every manager wants to do well in Europe. Losing in Europe is never healthy for a big club. How do you keep players happy? City are out of the League Cup. Going out of the Champions League is no good for a club of that size.

"There's nothing better than big European nights. It keeps the momentum going for your season."

Elsewhere, Daniel Taylor of the Guardian believes that Everton have become City's bogey team and there's a sense that Mancini is just happy to get this game out of the way with his unbeaten record in tact.

"For Manchester City, there was an unhappy sense of deja vu. They have encountered more problems with Everton under Roberto Mancini's reign than any other team and, once again, there was the distinct feeling that this is increasingly the fixture they look forward to the least," writes Taylor.

"It is becoming a recurring theme because, by now, Everton can produce a thick portfolio of evidence for the right to be known as City's bogey club. They were the last team to win at the Etihad Stadium, going back almost two years.

"Only two other sides, Sunderland and Arsenal, have taken anything from this ground since but David Moyes's side give the impression they get an extra motivation from showing they can cope against a team of greater riches and depth.

"This was the seventh encounter between Mancini and Moyes and the Italian has won one, losing five."

Sunday's main transfer headline concerns Liverpool's Raheem Sterling who is allegedly a target for City, United and Chelsea in the wake of Brendan Rodgers admitting that the player is yet to agree a new contract at the club.

"Sportsmail understands City are monitoring Sterling's situation closely and could consider launching a bid in January if the stand-off is not resolved by then," writes the Daily Mail's Sami Mokbel.

"Sterling's advisers have held two meetings with Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre - the second of which took place at the start of the week - but the player has yet to receive a formal offer, despite the fact he is entering the final 18 months of his current contract."
