Mbavu The Destroyer is a classic case of seizing opportunity when it knocks.
Two years ago, few people knew his name. He was a private security officer just trying to earn a living. I first noticed him during the Vurugu boxing match organized by Oga Obinna, thanks to his viral “weka mawe” sound and the fight hype against Majembe.
Despite the loss, Mbavu didn’t fade away. He turned the online visibility into a full-time content career. With the fight money, he went home and started building a house for his mother—prioritizing family over other advice. That choice makes sense when you’ve watched your parents struggle; for many from Western Kenya, the first instinct with new money is to improve life at home.
Today he’s a talented content creator with natural energy in action skits and ads. Give him the right script and production, and he could go far. Majembe has tried a similar path, but Mbavu’s personality can’t be manufactured.
What’s your take on Mbavu?
