An all-new 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series will supposedly be revealed in August with a twin-turbocharged hybrid V6 instead of a V8 engine, as per a new report from Japan.
Japan’s Best Car Web claims that the new Land Cruiser “300 Series” will come with a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 hybrid powertrain, and will produce 313 hp and 356 Nm, which is actually far less than the existing 5.7-litre V8, but it is suggested that the new model will be lighter to compensate. It is also possible that there will be less-complicated engine options available in lower-spec models, as such fancy mechanicals won’t fly well with desert-safari enthusiasts and operators.
It is also claimed that the turbo-hybrid version will have a CVT automatic, which is Toyota’s favourite transmission of choice when it comes to their hybrid cars.
The car pictured here is just a guess in terms of styling, but the new model isn’t expected to be vastly different in size compared to the current model. It is already much smaller than the Nissan Patrol, Ford Expedition and Chevy Tahoe. It is also expected that the Land Cruiser will continue to have a body-on-frame chassis, although it is unclear if it will finally get independent rear suspension like its rivals.
It is also suggested that the new Land Cruiser will be offered with five or eight seats, with 17, 18 and 20-inch alloy wheel options. And a full suite of active safety features will be available.
