Kuwa na PCM au PGM ni criteria zilizowekwa na UDSM na vyuo vya Tanzania. Lakini sio muhimu katika masomo ya computer science.

Kuhusiana na maana ya degree zenyewe. Zamani kulikuwa hakuna degree ya computer science. Mpaka sasa pioneers wa computer science ni watu waliosomea electrical engineering, mathematics, material science and physics. Kwa miaka mingi ilikuwa ni sehemu ya department ya Electrical Engineering or Mathematics. Mwishoni mwa miaka ya 80 na mwanzoni 90 kulikuwa na ongezeko kubwa la matumizi computers na mahitaji ya wataalamu yaliongezeka. Hivyo vyuo vingi vilianzisha department ya computer science kupata wataalamu na watafiti.

Katika miaka ya 90 matumizi ya computer na telecommunication yaliongezeka zaidi na kwenye fani mbalimbali. Na vilevile kukaanza kutokea wataalamu wa matumizi ya computer katika fani hizo. Huu ndio ujio wa IT. Hivyo mtu kuwa mtaalamu wa IT sio lazima awe amebobea sana kwenye maths. Inategemea anatumia applications za computer kwenye masuala gani. Matokeo ya utafiti yaliyofanyika miaka ya nyuma yamefanya matumizi ya applications za computer kuwa user friendly.

Hii ilisababisha gharama za ku-maintain na ku-develop software kuwa kubwa na process kuwa unpredicatability. Hivyo wataalamu wakaamua kutumia mbinu zinazotumika kwenye fields zingine za engineering kuboresha development of software. Kwa mfano kwenye utengenezaji wa magari kuna designer, kuna mechanical engineer, kuna interior designer na watu wengine. Baada ya kuonekana kuwa department ya it ktk makampuni na mashirika mengi imekuwa kama mzigo (nnaposema mzigo ni kuwa haizalishi..wafanyakazi wengi wa IT katika maofisi mengi wamekuwa wakisubiri computer kuharibika watengeneze,(makampuni mengine wao wanatupa tu computer) au kucheza na server na mambo yanayohusu computer kwa ujumla hivyo kuifanya department ya IT kuwa na matumizi makubwa sana)
Hivyo basi baada ya kuliona hilo ndio wakaamua IT iwe BIT (business information technology)....ili hii department ya It iwe inazalisha pia au kusaidia kuzalisha na si kulishwa tu...ukiangalia nchi zilizoendelea hakuna tena course ya IT bila ya business....nadhani hata vyuo vya Tanzania navyo vitaanza(kama havijaanza maana sina hakika)

Unawezakuona kuwa unadharauliwa kwa sababu mtu anasema ukweli. Mfumo wa elimu wa Tanzania unachangia kwa kiasi fulani. Watu wanasoma kwa combination za A level. Lakini sio kwa mapenzi.

Vilevile ni lazima kuwepo na ajira zinazo-support. Sijuhi kama mambo yamebadilika. Lakini nilipokuwa bongo miaka ya zamani, makampuni mengi ya bongo yalikuwa yana-subcontract kazi zao kwa makampuni yaliopo India au Dubai. Hii ilifanya talents za Tanzania kufanya kazi za support na sio software development.

IT ni mwavuli mkubwa wenye kujumlisha watu wenye fani nyingi. Ana-repair computers nao wapo kwenye IT. Kuanzisha kampuni yako na kazi yako ikawa ni kusaidia makampuni kuingiza data za mishahara ya wafanyakazi wao kwenye computers, utakuwa kwenye IT - data entry.

Kutokana na maelezo katika posti nyingi hapa, inaonyesha watu wawe wanataka kutambulika kwa vile walivyosomea. Ukweli wa mambo katika masuala ya computer, aptitude and talent ndio vitu muhimu.

Vilevile ni lazima kuwepo na ajira zinazo-support. Sijuhi kama mambo yamebadilika. Lakini nilipokuwa bongo miaka ya zamani, makampuni mengi ya bongo yalikuwa yana-subcontract kazi zao kwa makampuni yaliopo India au Dubai. Hii ilifanya talents za Tanzania kufanya kazi za support na sio software development.
Mambo yamebadilika kwa wananchi kuamka na kuanza kufanya yale Makampuni haya yalikuwa yakifuata huko India. Bado Makampuni mengi hayajawaamini Wazalendo ila kwa trend hii ndiko tunakoelekea.

Tatizo letu ni kulaumu serikali badala ya kupigania fursa hata finyu tulizo nazo. Ila vijana wengi wameamka na inatia moyo. Hope Serikali itaacha kutoa kila fursa kwa wageni bali itawasaidia wazalendo kuweza kuzitumia fursa hizo kwa maslahi ya Taifa hili!

Information technology:

To sum it up (and maybe oversimplify a bit), computer engineers design and build computers. Computer scientists design and develop computer programs, software and applications. IT professionals then use and troubleshoot those programs, software and applications.
