dearest wadau, hivi eti kuna tofauti gani kati ya dissertation na thesis? Au zote sawa? I did my research pepa last yr ya chuo kikuu,sasa nashndwa niiweke kwenye category ya dissertation au thesis.. Plz help.....

Mkuu naomba nami nitoe maoni yangu juu ya tofauti zilizopo kati ya maneno hayo. Kwa namna yanavotumika unaweza ukadhani kwamba, yote ni sawa. Lakini kwa kile ambacho academic Institutions nyingi zinakifuata ni kwamba Thesis ni andiko la kitaaluma katika fani fulani kwa hatua ya shahada ya uzamili au uzamivu ambalo halihusishi course work. Na kumbe kwa dissertation ina maana programme hiyo mwanafunzi anafanya kwanza course work na ndipo kama sehemu ya kukamilisha ataandika tasnifu ambayo huitwa dessertation. Vyuo vikuu vingi duniani hutoa Shahada ya uzamili na uzamivu kwa mtindo wa thesis au course work with dissertation. Vyuo vingi Ujerumani, Netherlands, Australia hufuata mfumo huu wa thesis. Lakini vyuo vingi uingereza hutanguliwa na course work na mwisho huishia na dissertation. UDSM kwa muda wote mathalani imekuwa ikito PhD katika fani zote kwa thesis isipokuwa PhD ya Economics, ingawaje kwa sasa PSPA nao wameanza kutoa PhD kwa course work.

Nadhani kwa hicho ulichokiuliza kama umefanya course darasani basi hiyo itakuwa ni dissertation kama ni level ya shahada ya uzamili. Ingawa kuna misuse ya kutumia neno dissertation kwa shahada ya kwanza kwa maoni yangu ile ni research report na sio dissertation.

Kama ulifanya "Research Paper" then is neither a "Dissertation" nor "Thesis". Research paper is simply a research paper and is lower than a dissertation or a thesis.

concept ya thesisi kwa baadhi ya vyuo hasa kwa PhDs ni composite term kwa maana kwamba ina-include final paper (thesis) plus a number of publications. kwa mfano unaweza kukuta mtu anayesoma PhD by thesis akitakiwa ku-publish a specified number of academic papers or scholarly articles kwenye academic/technical journals, contribute a chapter or chapters in a scholarly book and complete the PhD programme by submitting a final thesis paper (commonly known as a thesis).

kwa kuongezea, comparatively, thesis huwa ni ndefu kuliko dissertation. kwa kumbukumbu yangu ya harakaharaka, kwa UDSM, dissertation inatakiwa isizdi page 180, while thesisi inatakiwa kuwa within 250 pages (nakaribisha kuwekwa sawa katika hili la page limit). dissertations mara nyingi huwa na FIVE CHAPTERS (literature review na data presentation and analysis zikiwa only one chapter each) na thesisi huwa SIX CHAPTERS OR MORE (literature review and data presentation and analysis chapters zikiwa extended into more than one chapters for each respectively).

2. some chapters/parts of a thesis can be improved and be published in partial fulfillment of the requirements for that specific degree programme (by thesis)

In American universities, a thesis is submitted at the end of one master degree. In UK universities, the word thesis is normally connected with PhD (doctoral) or MPhil.

Students often do not understand the difference between a research paper, dissertation and thesis. This is one of the main reasons why they are not satisfied with the grades for their projects. There is a difference between research paper, a dissertation, and thesis, and you should know it if you wants to do a perfect work.
