La hasha. Mombasa-Kisumu pipeline is not a white elephant because even if we import fuel from Uganda, we will still use this pipeline to transport fuel from Kisumu to Nakuru, Nairobi and Mombasa. Pipeline transportation is more efficient than truck transportationBTW what's ur opinion as far as ur Mombasa-Kisumu pipeline is concerned? While u cover ur investment costs if this thing is to start being built next year? and completed say 2024?
Don't u think u should start counting ur Mombasa-Kisumu pipeline as another tembo mweupe?
But for how long? Uganda is starting to build her refinery next year that will be able to refinery 60mln barrels per day! do u think they will continue to import refined oil from Mombasa? 😀 😀 😀 ☝ another tembo mweupe! Kumbuka kuna plan ya pipeline, but hapo hapo kuna tanker zinasomba hayo mafuta ghafi to the port and shipped abroad, hapo huoni tayari kuna mchezo ambao haueleweki? Kuna problem somewhere...
This pipeline was not built to transport oil to Uganda. That was not the aim of the pipeline. Kenya wanted to remove trucks from the road and use pipeline to transport fuel from Mombasa to Kisumu. Trucks used to cause accidents in Kenya and they are more expensive than pipeline. That pipeline was for internal use. We have only started exporting oil to Uganda from Kisumu two months ago. Even if we stop exporting oil to Uganda, this pipeline will still be used to supply oil to Nakuru, Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu because in Kenya we are trying to remove fuel tankers from the road. But for how long?
still a tembo mweupe as once Uganda starts refining oil there is no way oil from middle east will be cheaper than Uganda's!This pipeline was not built to transport oil to Uganda.

KAMPALA, Sept 11 (Reuters) - Uganda and France’s Total have reached an agreement that will bring the oil firm and its partners closer to starting construction of a crude pipeline to neighbouring Tanzania, the company’s local unit said on Friday.
Uganda discovered crude oil reserves about 14 years ago but commercial production has been delayed partly because of a lack of infrastructure, such as an export pipeline.
The 1,445-km (900-mile) East African Crude Oil Pipeline, costing $3.5 billion, would pass through neighbouring Tanzania to the Indian Ocean port of Tanga.
Total said it had reached an agreement with Uganda protecting its rights and obligations in the pipeline’s construction and operation - known as the host government agreement.
“We have today reached major milestones which pave the way to the Final Investment Decision in the coming months,” Pierre Jessua, Managing Director of Total E&P Uganda, said in a statement.
“We now look forward to concluding a similar HGA (host government agreement) with the Government of Tanzania and to completing the tendering process for all major engineering, procurement and construction contracts.”
Total said a meeting between President Yoweri Museveni and its Chief Executive Officer Patrick Pouyanné also agreed to conditions allowing Uganda National Oil Company to join the project.
Total is the major shareholder in Uganda’s oil fields after agreeing in April to buy Tullow Oil’s entire stake in jointly-held onshore fields in Uganda for $575 million.
Tullow said this week it was confident of finalising the sale in fourth quarter of this year.
The other partner in the 230,000 barrel-per-day project is China’s CNOOC.
The government said last year once pipeline construction begins, it would take 2-1/2 to three years to complete.

MY TAKE
Paving a way for Final investment Decision! BTW what happened to Lamu-Lokichar pipeline?
I see Magufuli name all over, what does that mean?
How will refined oil from Uganda be transported from Kisumu to Nairobi and Mombasa without using the pipeline? Umefikiria hilo kweli?still a tembo mweupe as once Uganda starts refining oil there is no way oil from middle east will be cheaper than Uganda's!

If reverse flow is considered but with that pipeline without leakage sensors forget it i don't think a reverse option was considered! That pipeline is a one direction flow i have checked already! How will oil from Uganda be transported from Kisumu to Mombasa without using the pipeline? Umefikiria hilo kweli?
It can be fixed. We just did not have the money to fix it but it will be cheaper to fix it than build a new pipeline. If reverse flow is considered but with that pipeline without leakage sensors forget it i don't think a reverse option was considered!
