Two suspected thugs were shot dead in a police operation in Santon estate, Nairobi and two pistols that had been stolen from police recovered from them.
Flying Squad officers trailed the two to their house to the area at about 11.30 am and cornered them there before ordering them to get out.
Police said the me,n who had locked themselves in the house, refused to open the door prompting a confrontation.
Witnesses said the gunmen shot from the house more than twice before they were mowed down by police bullets.
Kasarani OCPD Robinson Mboloi said the officers were led there by informers who said they gang which had been linked to a series of robberies in the city was in the house.
He said preliminary findings showed the weapons, which had ten bullets belonged to the police.
“We are investigating to know how they were robbed and if they have since been used in committing any other robbery in the country,” he said.
A crowd milled around the scene of the shooting incident before the bodies were moved to the mortuary. The incident increases to more than ten, the number of suspects killed in the city in the past week in the war on crime.
Meanwhile, a cameraman died after he was hit by a racing car at Jamhuri Park racetrack in Nairobi during the sixth round of the Kenya National Autocross championship on Saturday.
Police said Anthony Ndung'u Macharia was pronounced dead in hospital where he had been rushed for treatment following the afternoon incident.
He succumbed to the injuries he sustained while attempting to save his equipment - a camera on a tripod - from being run over by one of the cars in the competition, police said.
Nairobi traffic boss Leonard Katana termed it an accident but added officers were investigating it.
The event was called off after the incident.
