Whilst I am not against this idea or Prof Katima whatsoever (Soma hapo chini). As an Alumni at this very institution I am inclined to believe kwamba siasa inaua hiki chuo especially the College of Engineering (Formally known as Faculty of Engineering (FOE) ).
I am not a fan of "let the govt do everything" but hiki ni chuo cha hiyo govt. Govt hiyohiyo ambayo iko bize kuhakikisha UDOM inakamilika na kuwa kete yah uchaguzi mwakani, si mnajua 2010 is just tommor.
1. Hivi hizi negligence tutaacha lini? JK aka Vasco Dagama hawezi kuspare just two abroad trips na hela hiyo ikatumika kwenye ukarabati wa chuo chetu?
2. Hela za Epa? what if tukachukua 10% pale?
This negligence of our govt is absolutely bullshit, ni lini tutaipa elimu priority stahili? Ni lini tutaacha kuingiza siasa hata kwenye mambo ya msingi?
It can easily be seen kwamba the whole leadership in TZ ipo kwenye homa ya uchaguzi which is one yr away? Who will therefore come to the rescue of this issue?
To be frank hii ni aibu kwa serikali na watanzania kwa ujumla period.
Halafu bado kuna mijitu inatoka kifua mbele ooh serikali imefanya mambo makubwa!!!!!!!!!, JK anatisha, Ohh JK anaonewa wivu, Lets stop politics and do something!
Haiwezekani tukawa bize kujenga UDOM wakati tukiacha one of the then finest Engineering institution ikijifia kama haina mwenyewe.
Congratulations Prof Katima for this idea but we have to put the govt to task!
Note: Attachement imembatanishwa fo the original doc.

Fellow Engineers
Dear Sir/Madam,
Re: Launching of CoET Rehabilitation and Maintenance Fund
The Engineering Education and Training in Tanzania started in 1973 when the then Faculty of Engineering (FoE) was established at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM). In 1979 the University established the Institute of Production Innovation (IPI) to serve as a link between the Faculty of Engineering (FoE) of the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) and the Tanzanian Industry in order to foster mutual utilization of knowledge and facilities. In 2001 FoE and IPI were merged into a College of Engineering and Technology (CoET).
After over three decades of use, the infrastructure and machinery have run down and require a huge rehabilitation and replacement. The College Development Partners who injected huge sums to develop the superstructure, understandably, are not willing to fund rehabilitation and maintenance of the same. This task is supposed to be done by the Government. While we acknowledge the huge budget for personnel emoluments, over the years, the University has been receiving less and less moneys for capital investment and other charges; despite increasing numbers of staff, students and programmes. As a result, the area which has suffered most is Infrastructure Maintenance. As elaborated in the attached Brochure, the infrastructure is in bad state, and we can not let it continue to deteriorate, because this will have far reaching adverse effects to the quality of Engineering Education we
are offering. In the bid to reverse this trend we are launching a CoET
REHABILITATION AND MAINTENANCE FUND.
Being one of key stakeholders to our College, we are appealing for your contribution to this Fund. In the table below we have indicated some figures which we consider to be modest, because we would like as many people as possible to be able to contribute. However, we appeal to those who have been touched by this noble cause to contribute more.
