Udsm is not 50 years yet

When the 14 students were first registered in dar, it was under the auspices of london university as had makerere been for some years. So was the royal college (incorporating the gandhi memorial academy) nairobi. The london sponsorship of the east african colleges ended in 1965.

The following year (1966) all the university colleges -makerere, dar es salaam and nairobi issued their first east african university degrees. The east african university only lasted for 4 years as the following year (1970) each of the three countries formed their own national universities.

Udsm was therefor inaugurated in 1970 by an act of parliament. It is beyond imagination that the world is now made to believe the university is 50 years old. We hope the true anniversary will be celebrated in 2020 and the true first graduates of this university remembered(july manning is a london university graduate and joe warioba an east african university graduate.
