The government has issued a one month ultimatum to all heads of public schools which performed poorly in this last year's Form Four and Six national examinations to show cause.
The ultimatum follows poor performance of government schools in the recently released Form Four and Six results despite various efforts by the government to revamp their performance including major financial aid.
Speaking to journalist earlier this week in Dar es Salaam, Local Government and Regional Administration (Prime Minister's Office) Permanent Secretary, Jumanne Sagini said the government is going to take strict measures against schools found to be negligent. "We are surprised that despite government's efforts, providing grants to them, their performance is still poor…this must be looked into and action taken," he warned.
Sagini said education officers countrywide have been directed to liaise with Heads of the poor performed schools and document causes behind their poor performance.
Some of the worst performing schools at the national level include Fidel Castro in Pemba, Tambaza in Dar es Salaam, Muheza High School in Tanga, Mazizini in Unguja, Mtwara Technical in Mtwara, Iyunga Technical in Mbeya, Kaliua in Tabora and Osward Mang'ombe in Mara.
