When Hunter Becomes Hunted: 10 Cops Arrested For Stealing From Thieves In Kampala

Ten police officers based at a station in Kampala, Uganda, were detained after robbers they arrested blew their cover and revealed that the money they declared as recovered was not even half of what they took.

According to the Daily Monitor, thieves stole $110,000 and Euro700 from a Burundi national after he left a forex bureau in Makindye area, making the man pass out.

Good Samaritans helped the man regain consciousness and one of them is said to have notified a police informer about the crime.

However, the crime intelligence officers are said not to have informed their superiors about the incident and went ahead to hunt down the thieves on their own.

The officers are said to have located the thieves to Masajja area and recovered the cash, but only declared that they found $20,000 and Euro500.

The suspects who had been arrested and detained blew the officers' cover, saying they had declared less than half of what they had taken from their hideout.

The officers were reportedly detained at Katwe police station - the same place the thieves were being held - for 48 hours before being released on bond pending investigations.

The homes of the officers are to be searched in a bid to recover the cash balance as investigations continue, the police spokesman said.
