The only thing I see you there is if we can get our goods to Mozambique then they can easily b transported to Malawi,South Africa,Zimbabwe, etc. Same for imports from those Countries....

And So, Tz becomes irrelevant with our trade within SADC

Kenya mlitaka mahindi ya Zambia, na Zambia ni shareholder wa TAZARA, wao ndio waliwalazimisha mtume TAZARA na Magufuli akafunga mlango. Hata mkienda Mozambique yatakuwa yale yale. Tanzania geographical location can not be ignored.

Dude your reasoning is flawed. Food security which is a huge component of National security cannot be solved by imports or looking for alternative routes to ferry cargo.
Recently Corruption killed our viable solution for food security- Galana Kulalu, 15b spent and nothing to show for it.
Shorterm measures cannot solve long term problems some going back as far as 1963

Freight Set For Major Boost After KR And CMA – CGM Contract Signed

Kenya Railways (KR) has entered into a contract with Compagnie maritime d’affrètement – Compagnie générale maritime (CMA – CGM) as part of the Corporation’s efforts in marketing the Madaraka Freight Service. CMA – CGM is a major shipping line ranked as the third largest globally, going by the number of twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) handled, operating a fleet of 504 vessels that call at 420 ports in 160 countries.

In a meeting that was held at the CMA-CGM headquarters in Nairobi on March 26, KR’s Managing Director, Mr. Atanas Maina, along with CMA-CGM’s Managing Director for East Africa, Mr. Thierry Bidau, signed the contract in the presence of other officials from both organisations including Mr. James Siele, Business and Commercial Expert on Freight (Team Leader), Mr. Sammy Gachuhi, Business and Commercial Expert on Freight (KR) and Ms. Milly Omido, KR’s Business Development Manager.

The contract signing is among sustained efforts by Kenya Railways to draw in key players in the freight industry on a global scale. It is a remarkable milestone for the Corporation as it is the first one involving a shipping line. Previously, contracts have been between Kenya Railways and freight forwarders including one between KR and Cargo Care International that was signed in early 2018. As opposed to freight forwarders who are simply the link between shipping lines and shippers, shipping lines have greater influence on the cargo industry due to the massive scale of their operations which are borderless. They own and operate the vessels and deal with the cargo right from the actual point of origin thus according them more influence over key logistical decisions made by major customers in the industry.

The year-long contract is expected to greatly increase traffic on the Madaraka Freight Service. Under the agreement, it is expected that CMA-CGM will directly nominate huge volumes of cargo to the Inland Container Depot, Nairobi via the Standard Gauge Railway. Also, with CMA-CGM being a key player on a global platform, the contract is expected to greatly influence the perspectives of other players who are yet to embrace the Madaraka Freight Service

When you loose you abuse? Get a life! Yes JPM banned for political reasons Just the way EU & US imposes sanctions to Russia..Whether it worked or not is another issue, looking for alternatives is a sign that it worked. But the fact remains the way to solve Food Security and thereby guarantee national security is not through imports or looking for alternative trasit routes!

Half of the countries in SADC we trade freely inside Comesa, the rest we trade on a bilateral level, so what are you saying

How many time tariffs have been ignored if particular country doesn't see economical benefit of it? EAC is good example on this.

On top of all that, adding with transportation cost, Kenya goods will not able to compete with Tanzanian goods. Never the less, with traditional links Tanzanian hold with those countries, Kenya has just made it easy for Tanzania to sabotage the whole thing, in fact much easier than CoW.

Exports to SADC will nolonger pass through Tz. That's the main take! They will use the SGR to transport export goods to Mombasa, then onwards tp Mozambique by sea (which is cheaper anyway) then from there it will go to the rest of the SADC countries.

Once we achieve that route by sea, it also means it will be cheaper for Uganda,Ethiopia, Sudan to send goods through Mombasa and Lamu port to be exported to SADC countries that are not Tz

International shipping lines like maersk,CMA..etc transport goods at a quater of the price! Moving goods by the sea will be way cheaper than trucking them , once they get there, they will be transported via rail... We sell more goods to African countries through the quiet but stable COMESA that what we sell through EAC, so just because there is no spark in EAC doesn't mean it will be the same on all economic blocks

When those international shipping lines drop cargo in Msa and or Lamu, they can pick up exports from Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and drop them down South, when they are comming back from South , they can do the same ... Basically this deal ensures Kenya will be a transport hub for eastern seaboard of Africa, especially now with the signing of CFTA
