Uhuru Kenyatta supports Hamas in a new diplomatic spat with Israel and the West

Mzee Jomo is wondering what is going on with his son as he tears into pieces the strong relations that the
former had created with the west. This dalliance that Uhuru Kenyatta and Jubilee are getting into will cost
the country a lot.

For example why is he dancing around with Hamas yet the Israelis are still mourning thier losses occasioned
by the Westgate attack? Does he really care about the ramifications or is it just a way to thumb his nose at
the West at the expense of the wananchi?

Surely, who is advising this inebriated-drug-consuming-warlord of a president?

In this, Uhuru should have been quiet. That way he would not antagonize the Israelis while at the same time appearing not to be against the Palestinians.

Now Tel Aviv is demanding an explanation on the meeting with Abbas.

ISRAEL SEEKS CLARIFICATION ON PALESTINIAN EMBASSY

THE Israel government has asked Kenya for a clarification on what President Uhuru Kenyatta agreed with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas at the sidelines of the Africa Arab Summit in Kuwait this week.Uhuru indicated that the Palestinian request to re-open its Nairobi embassy would be favourably considered.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had already invited Uhuru to Israel for bilateral talks in January. It is not clear how the Palestinian embassy issue will affect the proposed visit to Tel Aviv.

Israeli officials were privately angry but said they would not rush to any decision as Kenya is one of their strongest allies in the region.

"As of this moment the Embassy of Israel has not received any official communication from the Kenyan government regarding this matter. We shall address the issue once such communication is received," said Deputy ambassador Yaki Lopez yesterday.

On Wednesday President Uhuru met Palestine leader Mahmoud Abbas in Kuwait where he reportedly welcomed a proposal by to open an embassy and a request for land for a chancery.

A statement from the Presidential Strategic Press Service quoted Uhuru as saying,
“Kenya acknowledges the interest of Palestine to re-open its Embassy in Nairobi and what has been requested will be considered.”

”Kenya, alongside other like-minded countries, voted in favour of a resolution of the UN General Assembly to grant Palestine the status of a non-member State of the UN,” Uhuru added.

Yesterday opposition Cord supporters accused the Jubilee government of kneejerk reactions after the UN Security Council last week failed to defer the trials of Uhuru and Deputy President William Ruto at the ICC.

"It does appear now that Jubilee is making decisions on behalf of the country on the basis of the support they get or do not get regarding ICC cases. In this case the decision to allow Palestine to open an embassy in Nairobi could be motivated by the decision by the US to abstain from voting on the deferral request by Kenya. US is a close ally of Israel," said Richard Onyonka, assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs in the last coalition government, on behalf of Cord.

Kenyans who studied in Israel also said the government should be careful over reopening the Palestinian embassy.“It should be approached with caution because it has political implications," said Francis Ndegwa, head of the Shalom Club, an association of 3,000 Kenyans who studied in Israel.

Israel and Kenya established diplomatic relations in 1963 but severed them in the wake of the 1973 Arab-Israeli war. Prior to the diplomatic fallout, Israel also trained Kenya's pilots and sold arms to Kenya.Diplomatic relations were re-established in 1987.

Israel assumed a lead role among foreign countries in advising Kenyan forces during and after the Westgate terrorist attack in September.

In 2011 Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and the late Security Minister George Saitoti separately visited Israel where they expressed interest in purchasing advanced weapons systems.

In 2010, personnel from Israeli defense firms such as Israel Aerospace Industries, Israel Military Industries, SIBAT (the aid branch of Israel's Ministry of Defense), and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman toured Kenya.

This year, Kenyan armed forces visited Israel with an aim to enhance military cooperation between the two countries and to investigate possible cooperation with Israeli defense industries. Kenyan anti-terror police also visited an Israeli company specialising in surveillance systems. In Kenya today, there is a Jewish community with about 600 members.

What nonsense! President Uhuru is just going by what the majority of the UN members support. The UNGA supports a Palestinian independent state. If you had taken the time to read the UN's meeting minutes, you would have realized that the Palestinian statehood is supported by the majority of the world. Keep telling yourself otherwise if it helps you sleep better at night.

President Uhuru Kenyatta invites Arab nations to invest in Kenya's oil, gas sector

Kuwait: President Uhuru Kenyatta has reached out to Arab nations to support his Government with the knowledge and technology to conduct cost-effective exploration and extraction of the country's resources.

President Kenyatta said Kenya recently discovered economically viable reserves of natural resources, among them underground fresh water, coal, oil and natural gas which will be exploited for the benefit of all Kenyans.

"We are already reaching out to various Arab states to encourage their private investors to consider the opportunities in Kenya in the oil, natural gas and energy sub-sectors," the President said.

President Kenyatta was speaking during the 3rd Afro-Arab Summit in Kuwait. The Summit brings together over 65 Arab and African presidents, Kings and heads of government.

He called on Arab nations to strengthen the supply of crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas, saying energy is a critical component of commodity prices and the cost of living. The President also said Kenya supports initiatives to reduce climate change and restore the environment in order to boost agriculture, exploitation of natural resources and generation of renewable energy.

"Arab-African partnerships will be helpful in designing and implementing sustainable strategies in this important area," the President added.

President Kenyatta said Kenya maintains a strong peace-building and peace-keeping tradition and was deeply involved in diplomatic and political efforts to end the civil war in the Sudan and midwife the Republic of South Sudan.

"At the moment, we continue intensive military, diplomatic and political efforts to ease Somalia into a post-conflict, reconstruction-ready territory," he added.

The President told the Summit, whose theme is "Partners in Development and Investment," that his Government was committed to the war on international crime and is grateful to the Arab and African nations supporting the anti-terrorism effort.

He encouraged sharing knowledge and experience, building common strategies and working together among states, saying isolation deprives people and nations of useful perspectives and knowledge, leading to wastage and duplication of much-needed strength.

"Chances of moving speedily in the wrong or the most gruelling and perilous directions are increased by relative insularity," the President said.

President Kenyatta said improved cooperation and strategic bilateral relations between African and Arab nations were beneficial to both regions. "Individual nations face various challenges of considerable magnitude. Our critical commitments - powering development, feeding our people and relieving them from want, keeping our regions and nations peaceful and stable, conserving our natural heritage - become opportunities for great accomplishments if we approach them in the spirit of win-win partnership," he said.

[h=1]Israeli PM Netanyahu: Iran nuclear deal 'historic mistake'[/h]
(CNN) -- While the EU and the United States cheered a deal that world powers reached with Tehran over its nuclear ambitions, Israel was fierce in its criticism Sunday.
"What was concluded in Geneva last night is not a historic agreement, it's a historic mistake," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told reporters. "It's not made the world a safer place. Like the agreement with North Korea in 2005, this agreement has made the world a much more dangerous place."
"For years the international community has demanded that Iran cease all uranium enrichment. Now, for the first time, the international community has formally consented that Iran continue its enrichment of uranium."
Washington said the changes called for in the agreement will make Iran less of a threat to Israel.
"We believe very strongly that because the Iranian nuclear program is actually set backwards and is actually locked into place in critical places, that that is better for Israel than if you were just continuing to go down the road and they rush towards a nuclear weapon," U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry told CNN's State of the Union.
