KENYAN DIGITAL DRIVING LINCENCE

1. These cards will come pre loaded with points and everytime a driver commits an offence the points will be deducted to a point of suspending the lincence.

2. It will also help in reducing common traffic offences such as overlapping, speeding and dangerous overtaking through systems monitoring of cards and stickers.

3. The new generation driving lincence will also help insurance firms determine the amount of premiums drivers will pay by reviewing their driving records

4. The card will also act as a bank card so that drivers will be able to pay for driving fines virtually eliminating the need for cash transactions.

5. These lincences will have chips containg information such as ;
- personal identification number
- contacts
- past traffic offences
- fines previously paid
- and warnings.


NB- POLICE OFFICERS WILL HAVE DEVICES TO RECORD THE INFORMATION AND ADD CHARGE SHEETS AS NECESSARY.

To put it simply, no country in East Africa currently has digital driving licences nor digital plate numbers.
What is available are new generation DL's. You can't scan any of these Id's or plate nunbers onto a digital device because they don't have smart chips in them. I think that's what Kenya is aiming for...
