The death of Prof. Malima still remains a mystery. In London a group of people in the medical profession known to Prof. Malima tried to discuss with the coroners in confidence the cause of his death. Post-mortem for the body was delayed for some unknown reasons. The coroners were baffled after they had received a detailed medical history and report of medical check up conducted in London in October, of the previous year which seemed to reject the diagnosis derived by the coroners. Soon after Prof. Malima's his death, Rai one of the a newspaper under the Christian lobby published a story that the paper had received report from Dr. Roger Soster Smith from the Coroners office of Ealing Hospital detailing the causes of death. This was even before the immediate members of the family had received any communication of the cause of death from the hospital. Contacted by the family, Dr. Smith denied any communication whatsoever with Rai.
 
The press both private and that owned by the government and party, including the state-owned radio; and the office of the president, has been Muslim's worst enemy in its struggle against injustice. The media fabricates and publishes negative stories about Muslims with impunity.
 

A post-mortem in London cannot be delayed for UNKNOWN reasons. The right of the immediate family to know are paramount. Tell us then what the coroner's diagnosis was as you seem to have been very close to the family. And since when has Rai been under the Christian lobby?

The Christian dominated government in Tanzania even after independence has consistently subverted efforts by Muslims to develop educational institutions. The following are but few examples:

a. The government has refused to redress the imbalance in education between Muslims and Christians contrary to the promises it made at independence.

b. In 1968 the EAMWS was declared by the government as an 'unlawful society' because it was building and was planning to establish a Muslim University.

c. In 1980's the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) was refused permission by the government to build a Muslim University in Tanzania and as a result the university was built in Mbale, Uganda.

d. In mid 1990s Darul Iman from Saudi Arabia was refused permission by the government to build a technical secondary school in the Coast Region, Mainland.

e. In 1993 the government signed an agreement (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) and the Christian Council of Tanzania (TCC). The agreement provided that the government with the two Christian institutions would jointly provide education and other social services. The agreement rendered that it would allocate funds each year to the Church to implement the agreement. Muslims were not consulted nor included in the agreement and their petition to the government was ignored.

This negative attitude shown by the government has given Christians undue advantage over Muslims. In his book Mwembechai Killings and the Political Future of Tanzania which was banned by the government, Dr. Hamza Njozi's has further evidence:
…Arabia (May, 1985) wrote under the heading "A Closed Door to the Corridors of Power": ‘The majority of pupils in Tanzanian primary schools are Muslim (80 percent), a percentage which dwindles to 15-20 percent in secondary schools, sinking to a mere five percent at University level'. Almost fifteen years later, on 2 February, 1999 the Member of Parliament for Kigamboni Hon. Kitwana Kondo told the parliament that out of every 100 students who sat for the standard seven examination in Dar es Salaam in the year 1998, 71 were Muslim and 29 Christian. But out of every 100 students selected to join government secondary schools only 21 were Muslim while 79 were Christian. The MP wanted to know whether Muslim children were inherently dull (An-Nuur, February 5-11, 1999).
The examples I have given and those provided by Njozi have proved the fact that Muslims have not been able to establish educational institutions because the Church which controls the government subverts their efforts since Muslims are perceived as enemies. To date not the government or the Church has made any comment to deny these allegations. Muslims have always taken the authorities on an intellectual plane arguing their case on facts and figures trying to avoid confrontation hoping the government would see sense and hence redress the balance to avoid inevitable future conflicts.

Untruths again. Can you give us a breakdown of Islamic and Christian schools that were nationalised? In Dar es Salaam, at least four major Christian Secondary Schools were nationalised ( Pugu, Minaki, St. Exavier, St. Joseph etc), 2 Muslim ( Aga Khan Boys and Girls), 3 Hindu ( Jangwani, Azania and D.A.) . The balance was totally skewed up-country were most of the nationalised schools belonged to Christian organisations. It is thus obvious that the whole exercise of nationalisation of schools was done to address this imbalnce and allow greater and easier access to education for ALL Tanzanians.

Lies again. You know it and we all know it that this wasn't the reason why TANU muslims were against EAMWS.

Lies again. How could they do it while we were not members of the organisation? And if that was their intention, why didn't they do it during the regime of Muslim Presidents? Were they again refused permission?

Really? Could you give the year and the exact location where it was supposed to be built?

Why should the government include the muslims in a discussion that was not of their concern? Did the government refuse to enter into a similar MoU with an Islamic body? Did they even try to enter into negotiations with the government instead of playing the victim card yet again?

Have you ever asked yourselves that it could be that they just do not pass the exams? That they are not well prepared for them? One could use similar statistics to show that some tribes are marginalized when it comes to education. Would you then claim that there is a conspiracy to favour the Chaga, Haya etc? Instead of trying to find excuses for your basic problems, try for once to look for solutions from within. You are not doing your children any favours by demanding that they be given free passes to places of higher education for one day they will be asked to show that they deserve their positions and will be found lacking! There will be no excuses then. Just like how Kighoma Malima was found lacking as a Minister of Finance forgrtting that it is only the bottom line that counts.

Absolutely. Hili ndio swali ambalo wakina Mohamed Said wanashindwa kujibu. Nini cha kufanya ili kuwakwamua waislamu katika dhiki waliyokuwa nayo? Kuna Mkuu mmoja aliwauliza kama wanataka " affirmative action", wakakaa kimya! Ndiyo maana huu mjadala hauna tija.

Kwa ndugu zangu waislamu ningependa pia wauone ukweli mwingine. Hata wao (kama ilivyo kwa wa dini nyingine) si kundi moja lenye mfanano na mtazamo mmoja. Tukichukulia kigezo cha elimu tu, waislamu walio mkoa wa Kilimanjaro hawalingani na walioko Lindi. Au wenye asili ya kiasia hawapo kwenye mustakabali mmoja na weusi. Huwa napata taabu sana kuona waislamu katika nchi za kiarabu wakiwa wamepiga hatua kubwa sana kielimu kuliko walioko kwenye nchi zetu. Bila shaka kuna uongo fulani unatumika kupitia dini na fani nyinginezo kuwadumaza waafrika. Hata baadhi ya madhehebu ya dini nyingine (ikiwa ni pamoja na ya kikristo) hufanya hivyo. Unakuta ama yanadhibiti jamii zao kutotafuta elimu ya duniani ama kuhakikisha kuwa waumini ambao tayari wana elimu kubwa hawaitumii zaidi ya kufuata "miongozo" toka kwa "walio karibu" na muumba.

Nionavyo ni kuwa kuna WANAFIKI wengi wanaotumia dini kudhibiti binadamu wenzao kwa manufaa yao ya kiuchumi na hata ya kisiasa. Hapo ndipo pa kuanzia kwa mwenye nia ya kweli kushughulikia matatizo ya jamii yake badala ya kulaumu dini yoyote au kabila lolote. Aidha, ni unafiki mkubwa kumhukumu marehemu Mwalimu kwa hujuma dhidi ya waislamu katika nyanja yoyote ya maendeleo hapa Tanzania. Huyu ni mtu pekee ambaye tunaweza kuongea kwa uhakika kuhusu juhudi zake za kuleta usawa kwa jamii zote nchini. Kama kuna jamii ambazo zingeweza kumhukumu kwa kuzipunguzia kasi ya maendeleo ili kubeba wengine basi labda Wachaga na Wahaya wangefanya hivyo, lakini nadhani hata wao wameona mantiki ya umuhimu wa nchi kuendelea kama taifa moja.

Haiwezekani kuielewa ahadi ya Nyerere katika haki na usawa kwa raia wote kama alivyoahidi wakati wa kudai uhuru, hadi usome hotuba yake aliyoitoa tarehe 10 Desemba, 1962 katika Bunge wakati Tanganyika inakua jamuhuri. Hotuba ya Nyerere ilijikita kwenye matatizo ya upogo kati ya Waislam na Wakristo. Nyerere alifanya hivi labda akijua kuwa ingawa yeye alikuwa Rais Mkatoliki lakini waliomuweka madarakani kuitawala Tanganyika walikuwa Waislam. Nyerere alikuwa na haya ya kusema:

Hakuna njia nyepesi ya kuondoa tafauti baina ya raia wetu Waafrika na wasio Waafrika; hakuna njia nyepesi ya kuondoa tofauti za elimu kati ya Wakristo na Waislam, au baina ya wachache wenye elimu na wengi wa watu wetu wasio kuwa na elimu; hakuna njia nyepesi ambayo Wamasai na Wagogo wanaweza wakalingana na Wahaya na Wachagga na Wanyakyusa.

Hii ilikuwa kauli ya serikali ya kudhihirisha nia yake njema. Kauli hii ilikuwa ya kuwapa matumaini na kuwahakikishia Waislam na wale wote walioathirika na dhulma ya wakoloni, kuwa serikali ilikuwa inatambua shida zao na itachukua hatua zifaazo kurekebisha hali hiyo. Wakati Nyerere anatoa kauli hii ya kutia moyo, serikali iliyokuwa imejaa viongozi wa Kikristo na taasisi za Kikristo zilikuwa imejaa hofu wakiogopa harakati za Waislam za kujiletea maendeleo zilizokuwa zinatapakaa nchi nzima kwa kasi. Walifahamu fika nguvu na umoja wa Waislam ukitumiwa vyema hapana shaka Waislam watakuja juu. Kwa viongozi wa Kikristo waliokuwa wameshika madaraka ya serikali hii ilimaananisha kugawana madaraka sawa na Waislam, kwao wao harakati hizi mpya ziliashiria kuanguka kwa himaya yao katika madaraka kama viongozi.

Hii ilionekana kama harakati za pili za Waislam, safari hii kuchukua serikali kutoka kwa Wakristo. Harakati za kwanza zilikuwa zile za kumngíoa Mwingereza katika ardhi ya Tanganyika. Bila ya kutegemea, serikali ikajikuta inakabiliana ana kwa ana na na jumuiya ya Kiislam iliyokuwa na nguvu ambayo kwa dhahiri yake kila Muislam alikuwa ni mwanachama, na ndani yake imejumuisha wana-TANU shupavu pamoja na wapinzani wa TANU. Wakati huo huo Baraza la Wazee wa TANU katika nafasi yake ya ushauri likawa linaishinikiza serikali ifanye mabadiliko haraka kutokomeza mabaki ya ukoloni. Serikali ikaona harakati hizi ni sawasawa na kuendesha nchi katika misingi ya Uislam. Baraza la Wazee wa TANU lilikuwa sasa limejigeuza kutoka kundi dogo la wazalendo na kuwa kundi lililokuwa likishinikiza serikali ndani ya TANU. Serikali ilikuwa ama ikubali matakwa ya Waislam au ikatae na ipambane na upinzani kutoka kwao. Kuanzia hapa mambo yakaanza kwenda kwa kasi ya kushangaza.

Tarehe 11 Machi, 1963, Kamati Kuu ya TANU iliyokutana Dar es Salaam ilipiga kura kuvunja kamati ya wajumbe kumi na moja ya Baraza la Wazee wa TANU chini ya Mwenyekiti wake Idd Tulio. Wazee walikusanyika katika ukumbi wa Arnautoglo na wakasomewa uamuzi wa Kamati Kuu ya kulivunja Baraza la Wazee. Taarifa ilisema wazee hao ni kero kwa sababu dini na siasa vilikuwa vitu viwili tofauti na hawa wazee walikuwa wanachanganya dini na siasa. Hiki kilikuwa chombo cha ushauri ambacho wajumbe wake wote walikuwa Waislam; chombo kilichokuwa ndani ya TANU ambacho kilimuunga mkono Nyerere na TANU tangu siku za mwanzo kabisa, kwanza chini ya uongozi wa Sheikh Suleiman Takadir na kisha chini ya Idd Tulio baada ya kufukuzwa kwa Sheikh Takadir kutoka TANU. Wakati haya yote yakitendeka Kanisa ambalo wakati wa kudai uhuru lilijiweka mbali na halikutoa msaada wowote sasa likawa linanyemelea kujiingiza katika siasa likiwa na agenda yake: kuwaweka viongozi Wakristo katika nafasi za uongozi na kuutoa nje ya uongozi Waislam ambao Kanisa liliwaona hawana elimu. Jumuiya za Kiislam kama Al Jamiatul Islamiyya fi Tanganyika na EAMWS zilikuwa sasa zinapigwa vita na serikali ya Nyerere kama vyombo ambavyo havikuwa na umuhimu wowote katika Tanganyika mpya. Katika kumuhakikishia utiifu wao juu yake, Waislam walijitahidi mwisho wa uwezo wao kuziweka taasisi zao kando na chuki za kidini dhidi ya Wakristo. Juhudi hizi hazikuthaminiwa. Serikali ilifanya juhudi za siri kuhakikisha kuwa jumuiya zote za Waislam zinapigwa marufuku.

Huu ndiyo ukawa mwanzo wa kampeni za kufuta historia ya Uislam katika TANU na mwisho wa Waislam kuwa na sauti katika siasa baada ya uhuru kupatikana. Baada ya kupatikana kwa uhuru, ile nguvu ya Waislam iliyotumika kupambana na Waingereza kuleta uhuru, ikaonekana haina maana yoyote na haifai kitu tena. Kuvunjwa kwa Baraza la Wazee ndiyo ilikuwa kishiko cha mwisho cha Waislam katika TANU. Baada ya hapo Kanisa lililokuwa pembeni wakati wa kudai uhuru sasa likajitokeza waziwazi kuwapiga vita Waislam katika TANU.
 
Kama unafuatilia mjadala huu hutoshindwa kuona lugha yangu ni ya kistaarabu na kiungwana. Situkani mtu hata kama sikubaliani na fikra zake na hili halikwepeki katika medani za kisomi. Watu lazima waghitilafiane. Endapo unapenda nikujibu nitashukuru kama tutakuwa katika mipaka ya staha na kuheshimiana.
 
Ahsante sana ndugu yangu. Kwa hakika yapo mengi hata mie najifunza katika mjadala huu ambayo kabla hayakuwa hadhir kwangu. Mwache Ami nae awemo muhimu ni kutumia lugha nzuri ya mdahalo, tusikashifiane na kutukanana.
 
Nyerere,TAA,TANU and soon CCM will be gone.....tuko kwenye era mpya jamani...mtoto aliyezaliwa 1992 anapiga kura mwaka huu sasa unataka kumwambia haya mambo ya TAA sijui TANU ilikuwa ya waislamu Nyerere akawanyang'anya halafu iwe nini?.....
