The republican weaver (Philetairus socius) is a species of bird found in South Africa, Namibia, and Botswana. This species builds large composite community nests resembling huts with pitched thatched roofs that retain rain. These nests are the largest and most populated treehouses in the world and some are a ton or more 6 feet wide. These birds are constantly making improvements to their homes, adding new nesting rooms and some nests have been in use for over a century!
