Zerooo!

Jaguars cars

As we sneak into the posh Green Park Estate on Mombasa Road, a security guard stops us at the entry for routine inspection.
"We are going to Jaguar's residence," we excuse ourselves. The guard looks at us even more curiously before lending a thin smile. "Nyinyi lazima watu wa nguvu (You must be well to do people)," he jokes. "Huyo jamaa (Jaguar) amefanya hii mahali famous sana (That guy has made this place become famous)," he attests in quick succession before waving us in.
We are on a mission to find the rumoured Sh20 million five-bedroom house that Jaguar bought last year (that is the right figure) And not just that, his newly imported state-of-the-art ride, a Jaguar that landed in town last week. It cost him Sh16.5 million.
We manoeuvre our way to the compound and there lies three posh cars at the parking. Jaguar is away with a fourth car running his daily routine at his Nairobi automobile workshop where he also controls his taxi business from.
The new house is one of his latest investments. As priced as it sounds, it is not his most expensive property as he owns a chain of houses in and outside the Nairobi besides running a real estate firm. It was only the other day when his music breakthrough came, that after ten years of waiting. It is still within the same time that he has managed to grow his taxi business, which he started through borrowed cash.
His is a success story of rising from ashes to riches. How do you explain a young man born in dire poverty becoming one of the richest musicians in the continent and wielding so much power to the extend of becoming the president's personal friend – I mean this is a guy who drives into State House and hangs up with the high and mighty as he would with his teenage friends.
Besides his consistent music success that came with the release of hits like Matapeli, Kigeugeu and his latest dime Kipepeo, Jaguar is said to have made good cash during the last General Election. He was at the forefront during the Jubilee campaigns openly supporting President Uhuru, a right move that seems to have given him favour with the current government with which he is said to be making good investment deals.
But still, it was only the other day when he was having war with CMB Prezzo over who is richer than the other. Clearly, he won the fight.
Currently, after enjoying the Safaricom Live concerts windfall estimated at Sh6 million and a great year with his concerts going for Sh300,000 (for local gigs) and Sh1.2 (for international gigs), it is clear Jaguar's music gains are growing to at a rate that no other music celebrity has experienced.
A joke was being made the other day that the only other young man who has as much cash as Jaguar is his friend Sonko, the Nairobi Senator. And well, he has been giving back to the society through his many philanthropic activities. He is currently supporting a group of ten slum women who have been diagnosed with HIV, besides funding and nurturing a number of upcoming musicians.

[h=1]JAGUAR: How I rose from a matatu tout to a superstar[/h] – Posted on February 10, 2014

Jaguar

Any secret on how you rose from a Matatu tout to a very influential person?
There is actually no secret, just pure dedication. I realised that music is what I wanted to do and I identified my crowd. I occasionally sit with them and that is why most of my fans can relate with my songs because they are about life experiences.
You used to move around in a convoy of cars with bodyguards, what happened?
When you finally make it as a superstar there are a lot of things that go on in your life. The transition from a life that was your own to it being of interest to others can be unnerving and scary.
I dropped my entourage because people now have accepted me as one of their own and I want them to interact with me without being barred by my security personnel.
Some thought you would be a one hit wonder with ‘Kigeugeu'. What drives you to do more?
Those comments did not demoralise me. In fact, they made me work harder to prove them wrong. I went ahead and did ‘Vuka Boda' with AY, ‘Kipepeo' and now ‘Kioo' which are doing well.
My new song ‘Kioo' got over 6,000 views in one week on YouTube. What everyone should understand is that I work well under pressure so keep pushing me as you are making me better by the day.
But even with your new song, critics are still saying that the style is the same in all your songs. Could this mean you have failed to actually grow?
As an artiste you must define yourself first so that when fans hear a song they can put a name to it immediately. I am happy that my critics and fans now know my style and tune. That means they are listening.
Most of your songs are now being produced at Main Switch and not Ogopa, does this mean you have changed record labels?
First of all I was never signed with Ogopa. I have been a freelance artiste and I work with any producer who I feel is good enough. A change is always good but there is no bad blood between me and Ogopa.
You have started showering your fans with money, why? And where do you get all that cash to just "make it rain" on the fans?
My fans mean a lot to me and it's because of them that I am among the top artistes in the country. I felt that I needed to appreciate them by sharing what I have. The money I dish out is usually 10 per cent of the money I get paid in a gig.
In a recent interview with ‘Nairobi News', you mentioned that you are one of the president's advisers. How did you get to such a high level position?
First of all I am not an adviser to the President, and second I supported Uhuru Kenyatta and Jubilee because I saw that one of the main agenda was to alleviate unemployment among the youth.
I actually told them (Jubilee) that if they failed to do so I would be the first one to leave. That is all, I never asked for a job or any kind of favours that most people have been thinking.
What about the issue of your friendship with Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko and the rumours that some of your wealth comes from the drugs trade?
I have never seen Sonko dealing in drugs and I have never traded in drugs. It is unfortunate that when someone becomes successful in life people must always have something negative to say. I am an example that you can make clean money and actually be someone important in society.
Apart from being a rapper what else do you do?
I am a businessman. I own a security company called Jagz, I have a taxi company and a garage all in the same name. I am also involved in selling cars and real estate.
Are we ever going to get an album from you?
You will get an album the day the government does something about piracy. My new song ‘Kioo' was just released the other day but already almost everyone has it. Maybe some time in the future I will make an album but I am in no hurry.
What are your most prized possessions?
My new car the Jaguar X6, my plane which has a personal pilot, and my family. I can say I am truly blessed.

[h=2]REVEALED: Top 20 Music Money Makers of 2014. You'll Be Shocked Who Earned the Most[/h] Wednesday, 26 February 2014 12:43 , Written by Jeff Omondi (Writer)

As the music business rebounded in 2014, royalties from radio remained the biggest source of income for the top earners in the Kenya music business. Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) has just released the list of top earners and most popular artists.

For the first time in MCSK distributions a regional-based artist (vernacular artist) has emerged as the highest earner. The previous years have been dominated by mainstream artistes such as Nonini and P Unit.
This comes as good news for regional-based musicians considering MCSK has increased its focus on regional-based musicians (and not to mean that there will be neglect of mainstream musicians).
Without further ado I give you the top 20 earners/ most popular artistes;

When Renson met jaguar, I am sure he did not know just how much of a life changing impact that chance meeting would have. But as they say, hindsight is always 20/20 and now he can see how far that meeting has allowed him to move on in his life.

jaguar decided to clear young Renson's school fees arrears and that allowed him to sit for his exams as a KCSE candidate in the year of our Lord 2013 Anno Domino. And Renson is currently sitting his exams and Jaguar took to his instagram account to wish him well. I am happy about that because it shows that for Jaguar the paying of the fees was not a one time act of charity. He actually cares enough to keep tabs on young Renson.
