Roger Federer continued his smooth progress through the US Open draw with a straight-sets win over 13th seed Jurgen Melzer in round four.
The five-time champion was in good form as he eased to a 6-3 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 victory in the night session. Federer had some luck in the second set tie-break with two net-cords and had to recover from a break down in the third but was always in control of the match.
The Swiss will play fifth seed Robin Soderling in the quarter-finals.
Soderling had to recover from losing the first set before finally seeing off Spain's 21st seed Albert Montanes 4-6 6-3 6-2 6-3 on the Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Rafael Nadal reached the US Open semi-finals for the third time with victory over fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco on another windy night in New York.
The world number one, chasing the only Grand Slam title to have so far eluded him, won 7-5 6-3 6-4.
And while his performance was not as fluent as Roger Federer's the night before, it was equally dominant.
Nadal will play Mikhail Youzhny in the last four after the Russian beat Stanislas Wawrinka in five sets.

Defending champion Kim Clijsters survived a brutal test of endurance to overcome Venus Williams and reach her third successive US Open final.
Williams was devastating in the early stages, but faltered in the second-set tie-break, enabling Clijsters to recover and win 4-6 7-6 (7-2) 6-4.
The Belgian second seed will play Vera Zvonareva of Russia in the final.
"I'm glad she made a few double faults in the tie-breaker," said a relieved Clijsters. "It was a fun night".
