United: Ronaldo 'not for sale'

Manchester United have reiterated that Cristiano Ronaldo is "not for sale" despite the Portuguese saying he wants to join Real Madrid.

"Further to Friday's press speculation about where Cristiano Ronaldo's future lies, the club has moved to reiterate its stance on the matter: United are not listening to offers," United's website said.

The 23-year-old told reporters after Portugal's 3-2 Euro 2008 quarter-final defeat by Germany on Thursday that there was a strong possibility he would leave the Old Trafford club.

"The possibilities [of going to Real] are big but it doesn't depend on me and because of that I don't want to talk about it," he said.

Asked if there had been an offer from Real, he said: "I think so, I don't know. In the next few days we'll see if we reach an agreement.

"Everyone knows what I want. But in the next two or three days you'll have something new."

Asked when he had made the decision about his future he said: "Some time ago, before this competition.

"I didn't want to say anything because we were in competition and these are important decisions."

When asked whether he wanted to leave for personal or sporting reasons.

"Personal," he answered. "It's something I want, something I dream about.

"[It would be] a step forward... for me it's a very good opportunity. As [Portugal's Brazilian coach Luiz Felipe] Scolari says, this only happens once."

He added that leaving Manchester United would be difficult "but I think it could be good for both of us".

Ronaldo also revealed he had been playing with a foot injury for three months and would need an operation to correct it.

Regarding his unspecified foot injury, he said: "I'm going to have an operation now. I have had a small problem for about three months with my foot.

"[The operation] is going to be in Manchester. I'm going to speak with them and in three or four days I'll have the operation and then I want to make a good recovery."

Ronaldo said he had not spoken to Alex Ferguson, who unsuccessfully reported Spanish champions Madrid to football's world governing body FIFA over what the United manager saw as an illegal approach for a player still under contract.

Ronaldo's comments came on the day a senior Bernabeu figure said they were waiting for him to make the first move before starting negotiations with United over a possible transfer.

"We are waiting for Ronaldo to say something, and as soon as he says he wants to play for Real Madrid there will be conversations between the two clubs," Madrid's director general of the presidency Miguel Angel Arroyo told Marca.

"We would willingly reach an agreement with Manchester United if it is possible, that is to say, if they want to sell and if the price was affordable."

Maskini Thuram, tumuombee heri, he is still so young outside the football world...

Thuram move ended by heart defect

A heart defect has prevented veteran French defender Lilian Thuram from signing for Paris St Germain.

The 36-year-old Barcelona defender had been expected to sign a one-year deal with the French First Division side.

He retired from international football after Euro 2008, and says that he has been diagnosed with a heart condition.

"I'm holding this press conference not to announce my signing for PSG but to tell you that doctors have detected a heart defect," said Thuram.

Thuram's brother died of a similar condition and the World Cup winner will undergo further tests and await results before deciding whether to retire from football.

"It seems that it's the same illness that my brother had a few years ago and from which he died on a basketball court," said Thuram.

"It's a total surprise, I didn't see it coming.

"In a month or so I should know whether I can pursue my career or if I have to stop."

Thuram began his career at Monaco in 1990 before moving to Italy in 1996 to play for Parma and Juventus.

He joined Spanish outfit Barcelona in 2006 but has struggled to hold down a regular place at the Nou Camp.

Thuram made 142 appearance for his country, winning the World Cup with them in 1998 and European Championship in 2000.

Adebayor demands huge rise or he's off to Barcelona

I WANT £120,000 A WEEK

EMMANUEL ADEBAYOR today gives Arsenal a new ultimatum: Pay me what I'm worth or I'm off to Barcelona.

The Togo striker is demanding a new £120,000-a-week deal - a staggering 400 per cent pay rise - to stay with the Gunners.

He said: "Barcelona have made a good financial offer. Yes, I am still under contract to Arsenal but it's up to the directors to satisy my demands. Otherwise, I'll leave."

Sir Alex Ferguson expects the end of Euro 2008 to herald a busy spell in the transfer market but insists Manchester United will not be rushing to spend.

The United manager has targets, but after a season in which his team won the Premier League and Champions League he is confident in the quality they already possess and could settle on just one new arrival.

Ferguson said: 'The European Championship derails transfer activity. Nothing really happens when the championships are on.

'Obviously, now that is all over, people settle down.

'Managers are back at their clubs and you can get some dialogue now if they are interested, but I wouldn't think (we would buy) any more than one player.

'We are looking at one or two things.'

Ferguson will continue to monitor movement in the market but does not see many transfer dealings being straightforward.

He said: 'People think it's easy to buy players nowadays, but it's not because money plays a big part first of all.

'Clubs with ambitions don't want to sell their best players, so it's not as easy as you'd think and we tend to look for younger ones.'

The United boss, appearing at a charity golf event at Loch Lomond, refused to discuss the possible departure of last season's top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid.

However, Ferguson included the Portuguese international in a list of young players he feels will show improvement next season while revealing that his veteran stars Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Edwin van der Sar and Gary Neville will play an important part in next season's campaign.

Indeed, Ferguson claimed that Neville, who was out for more than a year with an ankle injury, will resume his captaincy duties when he returns.

'I think we have a good team,' the United boss said. 'But I think there is still some development to come.

'There are some young players who appeared last season that did very well but for periods showed their youthfulness by being inconsistent. Those young players will come on a bundle now.

'That triumph of winning the league and the Champions League can only help us and players like Anderson, Nani, Rooney and Ronaldo will emerge from that and be really top players for us.

'Nani and Anderson will improve and that is the reason we bought them, to replace Scholes and Giggs in the long term.

'Giggs is 34 now but with the way we can control the number of games he plays, he still gives us a bit of real quality.

'He won't play every game but if he gives me 25 games of real quality, which he can do because he has looked after himself, that can keep us at the forefront in terms of players who can decide matches.

'And without question Scholes will give us another couple of years at the top level.

'Van der Sar has looked after himself, that's the key to it first of all, and he will be back for us. He will get a good break now.

'I've told him to take as much of a holiday as he wants because at his age he knows what's best for him.'

Ferguson, who claimed he might only make one summer signing, added: 'I hope that Gary Neville can come back, I'm sure he can.

'Of course at 33 it is always difficult if you have been out of the team for a year.

'But he is such a determined character that you wouldn't bet against him and if he does, it gives us another string to our bow in terms of experience which is important at stages of the season.

'He still has the desire and of course he is the captain of the club and that will give him the incentive to get back. He knows when he come back he will be the captain.

'So hopefully it will be another great season for us.'

Ferguson expects the top four of United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal to be battling among themselves again for the title next season.

'I don't see anyone outside emerging so strongly that they are going to interrupt that four,' the former Aberdeen boss said.

'You expect Liverpool to buy players and Arsenal have shown their hand.

'They have bought (Samir) Nasri [who is set to join from Marseille] and the young boy Aaron Ramsay so they obviously will be up there too. So I expect the same ones (to challenge).'

Ferguson was speaking at the Great Scots Cup charity golf event, held at the Carrick course by Loch Lomond where he is the honorary captain.

Proceeds from the event were to be donated to Ferguson's charity, Elizabeth Hardy Ferguson Trust Fund, and the Children's Hospice Association Scotland.

Chelsia wanatisha, hii combo ya Deco-Ballack-Lamp itaumiza vichwa timu nyingi......

Chelsea confirm Deco signing

Chelsea have signed Portugal's Brazil-born playmaker Deco from Barcelona, the day before Brazilian Luiz Felipe Scolari takes over as coach.

The talented playmaker had recently been told by the Catalan club he did not feature in their future plans and had been linked with a move to the Blues regularly in recent years.

And Chelsea confirmed the 30-year-old has agreed the move to Stamford Bridge, becoming the club's first signing since Scolari was appointed manager.

The west Londoners announced the news this evening and are expected to confirm they have paid £8million (11 million euros) to sign the two-time Champions League winner on a two-year deal.

The Brazil-born player's exit from the Nou Camp proved to be protracted due to the Catalans' valuation of around £11million for the player despite his age.

That price seemed to have deterred Inter Milan - who were also apparently interested - but Chelsea have managed to negotiate the price down.

Jose Mourinho, who coached him during their time at Porto, was linked with the diminutive schemer on numerous occasions during his Stamford Bridge tenure and was reportedly interested in signing him after taking over at Inter recently.

Ferguson says Ronaldo is staying

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted Cristiano Ronaldo will be at Old Trafford next season and will not be joining Real Madrid.

Ferguson met the winger - now out for three months following ankle surgery - in Lisbon last week after speculation about the 23-year-old's future.

"It went well. We put across our points of view, where we stand and where the player stands," explained Ferguson.

"I can say he'll be a Manchester United player next season. He won't be sold."

United will hope that Ferguson's comments at a press conference during the club's pre-season tour of South Africa will put an end to rumours linking Ronaldo with a switch to the Spanish champions.

Ferguson added: "It's not a difficult position. I was on my holiday and I was not going to interrupt my holiday, believe me. 606: DEBATE

"I wasn't panicked because the player is under contract so the strength and the rights are with Manchester United.

"What we have done well is to say nothing. We've kept quiet on this matter and kept it private and what I said to Cristiano remains private."

Ronaldo, who scored 42 goals for United last season and whose contract runs until 2012, is currently recuperating after his surgery, which ruled him out of United's trip to South Africa.

Ferguson confirmed: "I did go and see him last week in Portugal and it was very amicable - there were no problems. That's where we are and we carry on.

"He's on crutches for the first four weeks, he'll be in rehabilitation for the next four and then the following four he'll be back into football training.

"The time mapped out is three months and we won't bring him back a day earlier than that.

"I think when players have operations we have a responsibility that the player comes back 100% and we'll carry that out as we normally do.

"There'll be no risk-taking - we never take risks. Our goal is to always make sure that the player gets back 100% and that will be the same in the case of Cristiano Ronaldo."

Naona washabiki wa Arsenal wako kimya kuhusiana na uuzwaji wa Hleb na Flamini ila wanashikilia bango kuuzwa kwa wachezaji wa timu nyingine....Naona kweli Arsenal players are really feeling the whole credit crunch issh.....!!! As far as Ronaldo is concerned wamuache aende tuu ameshadeliver kilichomleta Manchester United..yasije kutokea maswala ya Ronaldinho(kama mnakumbuka mwaka jana dau lake lilikuwa kubwa, lakini leo ameuzwa kwa hela ndogo).

Am nt a fan of Ze Gunaz ila kitendo cha Wenger kuwauza Hleb na Flamini kimnisikitisha sana as much as napenda ligi ya Uingereza na vilevile napenda ushindani ktk safari ya kunyakua vikombe...

Ze Gunaz fans u are not talking about exit ya ma-player maker wenu mahiri kama Hleb, do you thing you can do anything substantial bila wao?, let me be honest katika hili, unless wenger afanye kitu substantial katika wiki chache hizi zilizosalia ktk usajili lakini unless otherwise mtatoka 'troophlessy'' kama msimu jana, na kama ndio hivyo then do not expect the likes of Fab na Adebayor kuendelea kuwepo...

Nahisi degree ya uchumi ya wenger inamuathiri mbaka anashindwa kujua..when is necessary to purchase..!!
