Tension as Turkey Dispatches Drones Along Somalian Border With Kenya, More Troops Deployed Fighter jets
A few days after Somalia started deploying one of its special forces units trained by Turkey along its border with Kenya, Turkey Forces in Somalia has this Tuesday dispatched drones to join the unknown mission along the border.
According to media sources from Somalia, drones were dispatched the Gedo region which is located close to the Kenyan border.
On Sunday, Somalia deployed Turkish-trained Gorgor unit soldiers in Dolow town in the Gedo region, near Kenya's border, which raised tensions among civilians of the two nations who live along the borders.
The deployment of the forces continued on Monday, and on Tuesday, drones followed.
Somalia took the step of deploying its special forces along the border with Kenya after it accused the Kenyan government of equipping a militia to attack its forces, and particularly hinder their coming general elections.
Somalia and Kenya tried to solve their issues during the recently concluded IGAD summit in Djibouti but Somalia government later alleged that they were put under pressure during the summit.
According to media reports, the Somalia Federal Government believes Kenya is working with Jubaland leaders to arm a militia group in Gedo region to attack security forces and disrupt the election, allegations that Kenya repeatedly refuted.
Tension is now high among residents after seeing several soldiers flowing into the Gedo region.
