My brother and friend Nyaga Paul Mawalla has been laid to rest today in Nairobi. Glory be to God as he now sleeps with the angels.
His greatest lesson was friendship and loyalty. I witnessed both in his final moment. His friends were there and those who couldn't make it sent their wishes.
May I take this opportunity to say thank you to each and everyone who comforted and support us during our time of great tribulation. That is friendship.
I pray that our good Lord bless you in abundance. May he bless the works of your hands.
Our friendship should have no borders. We should not classify who is our friend based on wealthy, ethnicity, education or any other form of social status.
My brother and friend has left yet another lesson to me. As I looked around seeing who is around to accompany him in his last journey here on earth I was humbled.
I saw Pastor Aaron Urio and his wife, and a Pastor from Samanga Moshi who I can't recall the name now (Religious Leaders)
I saw Lazaro Nyalandu (Deputy Minister), Freeman Mbowe (Leader of Opposition), Hon. Lembeli, Godbless Lema, Peter Msigwa, Ole Sendeka (Members of Parliament).
I saw Sir George Kahama, Rt. Judge Mark Bomani, Ambassador Batilda Buriani, Judge Joaquine De'mello.
I saw Rajab (Bulk Supplies), Hatim (London Bazaar), Raju (image motors), Graham (Grumeti - Singita), Ian Haynes (TGTS), Alex (Burka)...(busi ness men)
I saw Kaburu, Lello, Sophia, Mzee Lyatuu, Jennipher, Omari, Ephraimu, (humble support staffs. Nyaga NEVER called anyone a servant or maid)
I saw Magai, Lawrence Masha, Fatma Karume, Stolla, Maro, Mugwhay, Matilda, Akida, Ngereza, Kelvin, Neema, Chatry, Engerasia, Moses, Deogratius...(a dvocates)
I saw many more. Many friends!
All were celebrating the promotion to glory of a great man. One who walked in front o us and cleared the path. One who always looked back and encouraged us to keep going no matter how high or steep the ground is. Nyaga Paul Mawalla.
Thank you all who got a chance to say a word. You confirmed the goodness in Nyaga Paul Mawalla despite his being human. His errors were well below his kind and generous heart.
Now I will recoil in my little shell and live what you taught me Nyaga. It is time you rest in peace and for me to do what you would have smiled seeing me doing. I know you will smile down from heaven with each good and generous act.
My brother, you had dreams not for yourself but for me and for this country. I know what you wanted me to be.
Your words to me "Albert my brother, I am your lowest standard. Double what I have achieved not in terms of wealth alone but friendship, love, loyalty and dedication to a cause"
A new chapter has began for me and many more whom you inspired and touched. I will not let you down my brother and dearest friend. Your dreams and legacy will live forever.
Pole Mzee Juma Mawalla and Mama Nyaga. Pole the brothers and sisters. I feel your pain and loss. Pole all the aunties and uncles.
Pole babies Sherlyne and Margaret - Theresa...your dad loved you beyond words!!
Nyaga, you were a rare gift. The special one. May The Lord grant you eternal peace. Now you should rest in peace.
Always your loving young brother,
Albert.
