VITA VYA MAJIMAJI MPAKA JINA LA SONGEA
SEHEMU YA KWANZA

JINA la Songea limekuwa maarufu kiasi cha kuwafanya baadhi ya watu kudhani kuna mkoa unaitwa Songea.
Ukweli ni kwamba Songea ni wilaya iliyopo katika mkoa wa Ruvuma na jina hilo linatokana na shujaa wa Wangoni, Nduna Songea Mbano. Ni vigumu kuilezea historia ya vita ya MajiMaji(1905-1907) bila kutaja jina la Songea Mbano, shujaa huyo wa Wangoni kutokana na mchango wake mkubwa katika kupigania haki na uhuru wa Waafrika.

Songea alikuwa mtu mwenye sifa ya kipekee kutokana na uwezo wake mkubwa wa kufanya kazi bila kuchoka na katika mazingira magumu . Aliwashirikisha wananchi wake katika kufanya maamuzi na kujijengea mazingira yaliyomfanya kila mtu amuamini, kumsikiliza na kumheshimu.
Nduna Songea Mbano alikuwa ni shujaa aliyesimama kidete na kupinga hoja ya utawala wa Kijerumani ambao ulionekana wazi unataka kudhalilisha utawala wa kabila la Wangoni. Songea alisimama kidete na kusema waziwazi kuwa Wangoni hawawezi kuutambua utawala mpya wa kijerumani.

Hivyo kutokana na ujasiri wake, baada ya wajerumani kuwashinda vita kwa taabu dhidi ya Wangoni ,jina lake hilo likapewa hadhi ya mji wa Songea badala ya jina halisi la ‘Ndonde’ mwaka 1906. Na sababu kuu ya jina lake kuwa jina la wilaya ni kutokana na yeye na wenzake kunyongwa mbele ya umati wa watu kwa sababu ya kuupigania Uafrika. Unaambiwa kuwa Kiongozi huyo alikuwa ni miongoni mwa wasaidizi ( Nduna) 12 wa Chifu wa kabila la Wangoni (Nkosi) Chifu Mputa bin Gwezerapasi Gama.

Wasaidizi wengine ni Mgendera Mawaso Gama, Kohongo Magagura, Mputa Mkuzo Gama, Magodi Mbamba Mbano, Mtekateka Muyamuya Tawete na Fratela Fusi Gama. Wasaidizi wake wengine wa Chifu Mputa ni pamoja na Nduna Maji ya kuhanga Komba, Zimanimoto Gama, Mpambalyoto Soko Msalawani, Mtepa Hawaya Gama na Nduna Mkomanile ambaye alikuwa ni mwanamke pekee kuwa na wadhifa huu wa Uduna.

Nduna Songea Mbano alikuwa ni maarufu kuliko manduna wenzake na hata chifu Mputa Gama alikuwa anamtegemea sana katika kuwaongoza Manduna wenzake na wapiganaji wa vita ya Maji Maji. Ofisa Elimu Msaidizi wa Makumbusho ya vita ya Maji Maji ya Songea, Erick Soko , anaelezea sifa za ziada alizokuwa nazo Nduna Songea katika kuongoza vita vya Maji Maji dhidi ya wakoloni wa kijerumani.

Soko anayaelezea maisha ya Songea kuwa alitokea kupata umaarufu mkubwa ikilinganisha na wenzake 11 kwa kuwa alikuwa na ueledi na ustadi wa kuandaa mikakati ya kivita, na kutoa maamuzi mazito yasiyotetereka na kuyasimamia kikamilifu. Umakini wake mkubwa ni kufanya kile alichokuwa akikiamini na uthibitisho wa jambo hili ulianza kujitokeza julai 12, mwaka 1897 katika viwanja vya Bomani kwa Mkuu wa Wilaya wa Kijerumani, Luteni Engelhardt.

Nakiri mimi ni muislam, but swali langu ni kuwa hawa mabwana walipigana kwa sababu ni 'waislam' au sbb ya kupinga 'uvamizi'.
Wakoloni walikuja na dini na kama unaelewa vizuri sehemu walizofikia wakoloni elimu ya kimagharibi ilikwenda haraka zaidi na hata watumishi wengi wa serikali wakati wa ukoloni walikuwa wa dini Kikristo,hilo halina ubishi.Ukiondoa Nyerere na wengine wachache,watumishi wengi wa serikali waliogopa kujiunga na vyama vya siasa.

Katika nyumba hii katika miaka hiyo hiyo ya 1950 kabla hajakutana na Nyerere Abdul Sykes alikuwa katika nyumba hii akijaribu kumshawishi Chief Kidaha Makwaia ajiunge na TAA waunde TANU wadai nchi na Chief aje kuwa Waziri Mkuu wa kwanza wa Tanganyika huru. Mke wa Abdul Sykes maarufu kwa jina la Mama Daisy anasema walikuwa wakizungumza wakila chakula cha jioni na yeye akisikiliza mazungumzo yao yote.
