So the significance of protein being amphoteric in living organisms, is that it contribute to maintain the PH in living organisms that also is very important for the living systems to work clear, changes in PH can have drastic consequences for important cellular molecules such as proteins itself, which in turn can have disastrous effects on the metabolism and structure of the cell; for this reason organisms can exist only in fairly narrow range of PH.

Enzymes work in a narrow range of pH and also ni kwamba all biological reactions take place in the body are controlled by enzymes so enzymes are protein in nature so kama zina narrow range ya pH inamaana a very slight change ya pH ita cause a very drastic effect to the organism meaning that inaeza sababisha matatizo makubwa mwilini kama denaturation of enzymes which will disrupt reactions zote katika mwili so ni very important zi act as buffers ( ziwe amphoteric ) buffer solution is a solution that doesnt allow a drastic change in pH when a small amount of base or acid is added to it ! So hizi protein zinakua made up of amino acids and so at the iso electric point ( pH at which net charge on amino acid is zero ) then zinaact as Buffer ( amphoteric )
