This has been attributed to increased travel from non-European Union and third countries following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions.
“Immediately after the European Union/Schengen Area countries decided to ease their COVID entry restrictions for the summer, third country travellers who needed a visa to enter the EU/Schengen Area applied for one,” SchengenVisaInfo.com said in a statement.
The Schengen region, which comprises 26 countries, further revealed that there are no available slots for the summer, July and August months, even though some countries may have few slots only for August.
A Schengen Visa permits a person to enter any EU country for a limited period of three months either for tourism or business purposes.
In this case, nationals from third countries which have no Visa-liberalization agreements with EU countries must obtain a visa before travelling to the EU.
This comes just as most companies in Europe have noted a change of tune by tourists who are now opting for other destinations such as Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Egypt, and Turkey.
